Introducing: Restless Art

By Kate Riley February 24, 2020

Six months ago I was having one of those moments of stillness where I was reflecting on the direction of my life, and I asked myself a question, “When do you feel most happy?” The answer was clear. Second to spending time with family and friends, my favorite thing to do in life, the thing that makes me feel the most happiness is exploring the world, taking pictures as I go, meeting the locals, and feeling connected when I hear their stories.

So I thought to myself, what if I could create a place on the web to share that with the world? A place where I could invite fellow travel loving, open hearted humans to join me?

So I created Restless Art. And the deep gut truth is this, it feels very purpose driven, like I was called to show up here on this earth, in this way, in this space.

Restless Art has a mission! It exists to support artists and photographers who paint or capture images with a goal to unite cultures and celebrate the beauty of the earth. This site’s main goal is to open eyes through connection. We are all human, we are all one. We all crave to be seen and loved for who we are.

Restless Art was founded to encourage unity and acceptance, to spread love and positivity, to tell authentic stories, and to honor the beauty that exists on this planet, both natural and man made. The site is a source for travel art but also a place where stories are shared. “If you build it they will come” is that famous movie line and it’s here where an art loving, people loving, planet loving community will live.

I spent many many months building this website. From concept to creation, it’s been a journey, that’s for sure. I’ve poured hundreds and hundreds of hours into it, there were countless late nights and long weekends. I started from zero, and built it myself from scratch. I had to teach myself sooooo much. Someday I’ll write a post on everything I went through, and failed at, and corrected and edited, just to get this off the ground.

Because the mission of Restless Art is connection, I had to kickstart it by writing a few of my own stories. They are quick reads, the ones I’ve published so far are on the travel stories page, like how there is magic in unmet expectations, the origins of my desire to explore, that one bad encounter I had with a local, and how travel showed me I won the birth lottery.

Photographs and art tell stories too, so there is an art shop now open.  So far there are five collections, all of it is my own original artwork and paintings, and there is much more coming soon!

And you know because I’m a design enthusiast and DIYer at heart, there had to be a page to share different display ideas. Find my simple DIY poster hanger project and what I discovered to be the least expensive way to print same day quality 8×10″ and 11×14″ art.

I built this site to not be about me but to become a growing community. If you’re an artist or photographer with travel prints to share, and you want to join this new community to sell your art, send me an email at [email protected]. Let’s talk :)

This site also exists to share great stories of all kinds from heartfelt revelations and wild adventure tales! If you have a travel story you’d like to share, I would love to read it and consider it for publication. See the FAQ page for guidelines and forward your story to [email protected].

Finally, the best place to keep up to date with the site is simply to follow along on Instagram. It’s there that I post daily about new art in the shop, new stories on the blog, dream destinations, and life reflections.

I invite you to meet me there.

It’s brave to put oneself out there, but this feels so right for me and I’m so proud of myself for all the research, editing, creating, and writing I did to bring Restless Art to life. Please take a moment to hop on over to the Restless Art website and tell me what you think! The site is just a baby and I’m still learning how this running a new business stuff works. Let me know if you see anything strange over there, I’ll be babysitting it all week to make sure everything is running smoothly.

And thank you in advance for your support of this new venture of mine! Oh and FYI, I’m not quitting this blog, no way! I love writing about travel and design and will be here at Centsational Style for as long as you keep reading. :)

  7. Way to go Kate! You inspire me! I am feeling restless and was wondering what kind of reading/inspiration you have found to help you tap into yourself. Over time I realize how outward I am and need to focus more internally. Any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks! Julie

    • oh wow, big questions! I’m doing lots of reading and listening to podcasts on personal development and living one’s truth!
It’s always good to start with Oprah! I love her Super Soul podcast, and I also love Brooke Castillo’s Life Coach School, they’re very inspiring!
