Creative DIY Desk Ideas

By Kate Riley July 24, 2018

I’m finally building that window desk as a place for my teens to do homework, and I’m starting with these IKEA cabinets as bases. I have a great idea for how I plan to make the 10 foot wide DIY desktop that I can’t wait to try.

I’m not ready for the words “back to school” quite yet, it’s only July, but I want to be ready by the time since mine start in August so this project has moved to the front of my priority list. My idea is to create a desk similar to this one below, with a long desktop set on top of two cabinet bases, but my idea is different for the top.

  1. My favorite desk arrangement in college, and probably most effective for my sketchy study habits, was like your example with the filing cabinets in the center. The upper area was book shelves, but each roommate had her own set pushed toward the side walls with a gap in the middle where we hung our shared dry-erase calendar. Can’t wait to see what you create for your kids.
