Weekend Reading 7.25.21

By Kate Riley July 25, 2021

Sunday hellos everyone! I spent extra time this week at our flip property with the electrician and receiving the kitchen cabinets. The property is in Sonoma which gives me an opportunity to sneak away to cool lunch spots or stop on my way home for a quick wine tasting. No complaints from me!

I’m flying to Portland on Thursday, so I’d appreciate any recommendations for good eats, cool spots, or nice views. I’m driving the Oregon coast home so if you’ve visited any beach towns on the Oregon coast, send me your recommendations for those spots too!

  1. Manzanita, cannon beach, Astoria and Newport probably best Oregon coast towns.
Division street in Portland has tons of good restaurants.

  2. When you are in Portland, keep your expectations reasonable. Our recent houselessness problems are really affecting the beauty of the city. I do not blame the houseless, our rental markets are insanely expensive and there are no other viable options for folks who have lost their jobs or their rental homes and have no place to live.

As for restaurants, there are so many to choose from but an absolute must is the Screen Door, especially amasing southern food with a NW twist! If you have time, take a swing down through wine country (Dundee, Newberg, Carlton, Yamhill, MacMinnville) Our wineries rival there CA wine country counterparts. It would be worth a day to do that before you head to the coast. The coast is amazing although quite busy along 101 at this time of the year anywhere north of Newport. Depot Bay is a favorite of mine as well as Pacific City. Southern Oregon coast is so totally different than the northern Oregon coast. Welcome to Oregon, we are happy to show off our state to you!!
