Weekend Reading 6.6.21

By Kate Riley June 6, 2021

It was a busy weekend between graduation celebrations and BBQs, I’m just sitting down Sunday evening to write up this post weary from running around but proud of all the graduates I know. One thing is for sure, it was nice to circulate among groups of people this weekend, it’s been so long!

June is always a lazy month and my teens sleep in late, which makes the mornings really quiet. I love the peaceful feeling that these still summer mornings bring.

Favorite links from the week:

Great makeover: this fresh yet classic blue + white bathroom.

So elegant: this white kitchen renovation with touches of brass.

Bravo: this weekend backyard makeover complete with firepit.

My favorite lightweight jean jacket, it’s so soft, I’ve worn it many times already!

Haha: the power of great flooring.

**For those who’ve visited Spain, my September itinerary might change, now after Barcelona we may be headed to Ibiza and after Madrid turn south to visit Seville and Granada. It all sounds like great fun to me! For those who’ve been to Spain, did you enjoy the southern towns or the northern cities of Bilbao and San Sebastian? I’m torn!

  1. Hi Kate,
Thanks for the links this week. Si to Southern Spain! Loved Seville, we were there during the Spring Fair and the uber stylish people promenading in flower decked carriages was magnificent. I enjoyed exploring away from the main square in the shops, bars and restaurants with the locals. Cordoba charmed me with the history, moorish architecture of the Mezquita, gardens of Alcazar and the narrow lanes and patios.

  2. I’ve only been to northern Spain, so I probably shouldn’t comment, but we loved San Sebastian and Pamplona. Bilbao was good too, we just enjoyed the other cities more. The food in both of those cities is just incredible. We also got to walk part of the Camino, and we really enjoyed that.

  3. Hi, Kate – We are looking at Spain for our 40th anniversary trip this fall. Since it is a big anniversary, we had planned to go to Italy, then gave up hope that it would be open, so we booked a trip to St. Kitts. Delta called yesterday because they cancelled our return flight from St. Kitts, so we are exploring our options again.
I loved your pictures from Porto, Portugal. For a 10 day trip, do you think we could fly into there, spend a few days, fly to Madrid, rent a car and see Granada and Seville as well? We typically rent cars and drive in Europe, but renting in Portugal and dropping in Spain incurs a large drop fee. Also, we wouldn’t want one in Madrid, I don’t think. The train ride from Porto to Madrid is VERY long for the distance, and air seems to be cheap. My biggest concern is checking our bags on that flight. We pack like Americans :).
I will be so happy when you are exploring again so I can live vicariously through your beautiful photos!
