Budget Friendly Brass Lighting

By Kate Riley November 27, 2017

On impulse I began a living room refresh last week, right in the middle of the holidays! Crazy I know. I started by covering the gray walls with fresh white paint and I bought molding to add additional trim above the existing wainscot to frame my art. I also decided it was time to swap out the light fixtures and I started with a this new brass sconce on the tufted sofa wall.

When I went searching online for both sconces and mini chandeliers (I need two for the ceiling spots) I found several budget friendly and good looking brass light fixtures under $300.

mod angled / jasper / dauphine

metro / clarke / anglerlayla

feiss conant / opheliamodern gold with shade

mitzi 1 / savoy  / mitzi 2

mod brass geometric / uptown pendant

This week I’m adding new molding and art and I’ll share the finished space as we get closer to Christmas. :)

  1. Love the update! Sometimes when the mood strikes you just go with it.

What white paint color did you use?

      • I am trying to decide if I want my walls gallery white by Behr (I think that is where’s it orginitaed and contemplates chantilly lace for the trim? How do you pick a trim color for such white walls? What trim color did you use?

        • Hi Jenea, my crown moulding and ceiling and door frames are Swiss Coffee which is a shade creamier than Chantilly Lace, but the Chantilly Lace matched the existing lower wainscoting perfectly so that’s how I decided for my space to keep the same shade of white for the wainscot below and above.

  2. I’ve been using Chantilly Lace for quite a few years now. Most of my furniture is painted using it. It’s a lovey white, isn’t it? I also just purchased a new house and all the rooms are being painted white. I love the fresh look and it allows me to swap out cushions and throws to change things up for the seasons or whenever the mood strikes me.

    • Agreed Wendy! This is my first time using Chantilly Lace. I’ve mostly used BM Swiss Coffee or Decorator’s White in the past but I’m loving CL now!

  3. Oh Kate, I love it in white! Loved it in the gray as well but the white is a nice fresh change for the holidays. That brass fixture you chose looks beautiful. Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

  4. Love that! Sounds like something I’d do. It usually starts by moving some artwork or furniture and before you know it, the room has been painted and rearranged. Drives my sweet husband crazy. Can’t wait to see what you do!
    ?

    • Ha yes I’ve already enlisted mine to help swap light fixtures, thankfully he’s a good sport. :)

    • Hi Feather, the two lower black and white pieces of art were custom framed years ago.
