Yuletide Tool List + GIVEAWAY

By Kate Riley December 10, 2010

Last year, I wrote up an article ‘Tools for a Cool Yule’ with a list of the the tools I consider important for my own DIY projects.  Now that this year is coming to a close, and some of you may be thinking of adding a few tools to your holiday list, here’s a revised list of a few I consider essential.

Those of you just beginning to dip your toes into the DIY pool might consider a few of these handy dandy tools to add to your growing collection.  This list is not exhaustive, nor is this list anything near what a professional might possess.  These are just my personal favorites and the tools I frequently use.  Oh, and if you like the word "Dremel” you’ll love the giveaway at the end!

Cordless Drill/Driver & Drill Bit Set

dewalt combo

I have a DeWalt just like this one.  They are expensive, but worth it.  I use this for everything, from removing seat cushions to assembling furniture to drilling pilot holes with drill bits.  Cordless, powerful, wonderful !   I couldn’t live without it.

Measuring Tape and Level

Essential for everything from hanging pictures and art, to more advanced projects like installing molding, trim and wainscoting

Phillips + Flat head screwdrivers & set of non-slip Pliers.

Basic screwdrivers are a must have, but you can also buy a six-in-one like this one (my kind of stocking stuffer!)  Three kinds of pliers (needle nose, side cutting, tongue and groove and/or flat head) come in handy for removing nails, staples, and upholstery tacks, among other basic DIY household tasks.

Hammers & Mallet

The hammer is obvious, but the mallet is a great tool for working with delicate nailhead trim and pounding paint cans closed without damaging the metal rim.

Shop Vac

shop vac

We bought this six years ago when we expanded and remodeled our house.  I consider it essential for cleaning up sawdust and other construction debris after working in my garage/shop.  It’s great for cleaning up crushed Goldfish crackers in the car too.  Smile

Stepladder

step ladder

I’m vertically challenged, so I’m always scurrying up my step ladder to paint walls or hang wallpaper, caulk trim, or decorate in high places.  Also, I use it as a tripod for my camera when taking pictures, no joke!!!!

SkilSaw and Jigsaw

skilsaw adn jigsaw

A Skilsaw is fantastic for building stuff (like a custom memo board) around the house or cutting thick pieces of wood in a straight line.  The jigsaw is my new best friend, great for making upholstered headboards or other projects with wood

Particulate Respirator & Safety Goggles

The respirator is essential when spray painting, and the goggles are necessary when particles like paint chips or sawdust go flying.  Safety first!

Heavy Duty Staple Gun, Light Tacker Staple Gun & Hot Glue Gun

staplers

Staple guns are one of my best friends, perfect for all kinds of upholstery.  You can solve so many of the world’s problems with a little hot glue, and a hot glue gun is a crafter’s BFF.   In my world, running out of hot glue sticks is cause for panic.

Retractable Blade Utility Knife and Wire Stripper/Cutter

utility knife and wire stripper

I use my utility knife for so many things, even making my own stencils.  Wire strippers are great if you plan to do any electrical work, like rewiring a chandelier or hanging your own fixtures.

Folding sawhorses

My hub wrapped a big ribbon around two of these last year and presented them to me for Christmas.  I almost cried.  In fact, I think I did cry.  Oh my, how I love my sawhorses!  Throw a piece of plywood on top and you have an instant work surface.

I used them this past year when I refinished my kitchen cabinets and my laundry room cabinets, and for all sorts of projects working with long pieces of wood

Vise and Clamps

vise and clamp

Both useful for holding your project steady as you saw, screw, drill, or hammer.  Clamps recently came in handy gluing trim to this wood cornice.

Spray Paint Can Adaptor

spray can adaptor

A snap on adaptor, or ‘spray paint gun’ like Krylon’s Snap & Spray is essential for anyone like me who is in love with spray paint.  It helps with a smooth application and assists in avoiding finger cramps.  Plus it’s just fun to use!

Orbital Sander and Detail Sander

sanders

For getting down to the nitty gritty and smoothing out those wood surfaces.  I have and orbital and often use it with fine sanding pads to smooth thick coats of primer.  I’ve recently discovered this handheld 3M sander, it was perfect for our recent staircase remodel and for revamping the boy’s dresser, I love it!

Hacksaw and Handsaw Combo

hack saw hand saw

For quick jobs working with metal, wood, and plastic.

Compound Miter Saw & Brad Nailer

miter saw and brad nailer

Aw yeah, I love my compound miter saw.  I confess it still scares me a bit with its powerful blade, and I never use it when the kiddos area around, but I loooooove it.  Compound miter saws are useful for all sorts of wood projects, perfect for cutting molding and trim at just the perfect angle.   Brad nailers allow for quick application of your freshly cut trim.  Heart!

Hole Saw Kit

hole saw kit

Not essential, just really cool.  These handy attachments work with your drill to give you perfect circular cuts when you need them.  I find them most useful for drilling holes in the back of cabinets to hide your pesky wires.

And my new BFF:

Dremel Rotary Tool

With tiny sanders, scrapers, and blades, this baby knows how to multitask!  Recently, I used it for this mirror chalkboard project ~ this ingenious tool is oh so cool.  I swear, walking past the aisle with all the little rotary accessories in their little cases stops me in my tracks wishing and wanting more.  *Sigh*

Which brings me to the next ‘essential’ tool:

The Dremel MultiMax Oscillating Tool

dremel multimax

Perfect for repair, remodeling and renovation, grinding, scraping, cutting, paint, grout and caulk removal!  These cut in tight spaces and power scrape adhesive, aw yeah.  This oscillation tool can cut baseboards and carpet, sand furniture just like a detail sander, or cut drywall.

Definitely a tool you want to add to your DIY toolbox!

  1. My daughter in law gave me a compound miter saw as an early Christmas present and I LOVE it. What I want next is a router. Gave mine to my son and I miss it.

  2. My favorite tool, since I don’t have a dremel ;), is a needle nose pliers. I use them for so many tasks.

  3. The DeWalt drill is #1, but a close second would be the Dremel. Retirement is coming down the pike for me before long, and I’m looking forward to doing lots of projects.

  4. I need a power stapler (intending to do some upholstering) and this would also be a great starter list for a “guy” or “groom” shower. Instead of a bachelor party, this should start a new trend and get them prepared for home ownership! I’d love to win!

  5. I’ve actually been drooling over the Dremel MultiMax since they 1st started advertising them earlier this year! I would so love to have one! Right now my favorite tool is my paint brush, old school, I know, but the most utilized on at the moment! :)

  6. I want a power sander so I can finally refinish my stupid kitchen table without breaking my arms!

  7. I love my Dremel tool. My parents bought it for me several years ago. You can use it for so many things. The other thing I use most is my wire cutters.

  8. I linked to facebook! I just discovered Centsational Girl website and I absolutely love it…I’m addicted.

  9. I was just browsing the Dremel website (no kidding) trying to decide which one I wanted Santa to bring when I saw your giveaway. It’s fate, I tell you. The Multi-Max is meant to be mine (I hope). ;)

  10. Oh my…I’m not exactly handy with tools, but a nice new staple gun would be fun or a drill that wasn’t all old and ugly like my husbands!

  11. Well, I’m pretty new to diy, so my favorite tool right now is still my hot glue gun. In fact, I just used it to glue down a loose end on my favorite seagrass chair.

  12. I could not live without my jigsaw!! I use it almost daily. That is, of course, unless the Dremel Multi-Max could replace it!!

  13. I could not – COULD NOT – live without my cordless drill. I wanted both the Dremel and the sander for Christmas, but my mother said she will NOT buy me any more “boy” gifts!! You have to laugh – she’s in her 80s and wants to buy for “her little girl”!!

  14. Couldn’t do without my palm sander! I’ve got the Black and Decker Mouse. I’d like to get a belt sander for stripping table tops and such for staining. I hate how my palm sander leaves little circular scratches in the surfaces!

  15. Think my power sander is my fav tool – this week anyway… it could change next week… LOL

  16. I have a new staple gun on my wish list for Christmas. I have a big project planned and I need some new tools!! I am certainly keeping my fingers crossed for this one!! Thanks!!

  17. I would love, love, love a Dremel and a Miter Saw. I have a lot of the basic tools that you mentioned in your post, and I use all of them regularly. I have been drooling over a Miter Saw for quite some time…ever since we borrowed one to do our flooring in our home a few year ago. Since then every time I look at scrap wood I have, I wish I had one. I only recently discovered the Dremel tool and I have to admit that it took all the power that I have not to go out and get one when they were on sale after Thanksgiving this year, but only because it is not in the budget. So I would love to win one. Win, win situation there!:-) My favorite tool would have to be my palm sander. It has saved my arms time and time again!

  18. Well, let’s see… Today I used the screwdriver with interchangeable tips and needle-nose pliers. I had both a circular saw and a jigsaw when I met my husband. Clamps are useful for so many things. I think it’s impossible to choose a favorite. But, I would LOOOOVE the Dremel Multimax. Tools are great, but having inspiration for cool projects is priceless. Thanks for all that you inspire me to do!

  19. I looooove reading your blog. It makes me think that someday, I too could be a DIY’er! Right now I have a hammer, a few screwdrivers and wrenches. A cordless drill is definitely on my wishlist!

  20. I’ve been drooling over the MultiMax since it came out. I also my Dremmel rotary tool; it’s so versatile! Even my dogs love their Dremmel pedicures!

  21. Love your list!! I’m happy to say I have a good many of the items you listed. But I must admit, my little “girl” hammer is my best friend!! It’s just the right size for rearranging a whole wall of pics. Not too heavy or too light!! Now I hope I get a chance to try out the MultiMax!

  22. I linked to your giveaway on Facebook. I love that I can show some of my friends that there are women out there like me who love tools just as much as I do! :-)

  23. I’d love a saw to cut out figures for use in the house (a wooden Christmas tree, make my own frames, etc)

  24. I have to say that the tool I use the most is the needle nose pliers. I use it for making jewelry, take out staples in upholstery projects, holding small brads and all sorts of good things. I am having the best time reading your blog, thanks.

  25. I have been watching the commercial for the MultiMax tool! I want it so bad, I even paused the DVR so my husband could get “the hint”. I already have a list of projects that it could help me with. Thanks so much for all your tips, tricks, and ideas! I am lucky to have most all the other tools listed, I love refinishing furniture, and building it too!

  26. Oh the drill for sure. We always borrow my father in laws. IRS a great excuse for my husband not to do projects.

  27. I adore my staple gun! I do have a jigsaw on my Christmas list, though. Most of the others you listed my hubby has so I can steal them while he is away at work.

  28. Oh, how I miss my cordless drill. I think I used it as a screw driver more than anything. Since it died I’ve been using a ratchet type, and it just isn’t quite tough enough.

But even more so, how I’d love to have a Dremel!

  29. I linked to your blog on facebook. I’m not sure how to link it here, but it’s up on my page! Hope I win!

  30. Oh man oh man I love your list! We just bought a bunch of these great tools on Black Friday and I was happier than my husband! I am really hoping to get a compressor with a nailer/stapler but I have also been checking out the Dremel and I would LOVE it!

  31. I love my light weight drill, it is the perfect size and just great for most projects. It feels good to be handy!

  32. I use my drill the most (have my own personal drill), but I love a project that I get to use our chop saw. That little baby is the coolest power tool. I do have a lot of fun with our power paint sprayer too, but the set up and clean up is a bit involved. And, I did just use our jig saw and electric stapler to re-do a few chairs. I think I love them all!
I’ve been thinking about that Dremel Multi Max, was looking at them ~ a moth ago. Oh Santa…

  33. I would love a tiny little detail sander. I think I’d use it for all sorts of fun little projects.

Thanks for the contest! Happy Holidays!!

  34. I love everything that you have listed. Makes my heart beat fast just thinking of all the projects I could do with my own tools. Hubby seems to hide his tools from me! My favorite tools would be my hot glue gun, staple gun, and power sander. I would love to win the Dremel.

  35. I think I’d have to say my staple gun is one of my favorite tools. that and good old fashioned glue! I’m too much of a weenie to use the saw! haha

  36. I have had every single one of these things on my personal wish list for so long that it almost made me cry to see you listing them here. I’d be speechlessly grateful to be chosen to win a Dremel of any kind, but yeah, I’ve had the MultiMax high on the list forever. As for what you might have forgotten to list, the only thing I could think of was maybe your painting tools/devices of choice, like sprayers or compressors or brushes or whatever? Or maybe that’s just me: I pretty much think of you as my go-to for the how-tos of tools. :)

  37. My favorite tool is my drill, but I must admit, the MulitMax is awesome. I borrowed my father in laws for a few weeks for a project, and about teared up when he needed it back. Oh my heart would just melt to win this one! :)

  38. There are soooo many tools that I’ve been eying… First on my list is the Kreg Jig K3 Master Pocket Hole System. Need it! Actually, the Kreg Jig and the Dremel Trio are my top two picks right now.

  39. I have a detail sander on my Christmas List. And sSince my husband likes to take some of my tools when he cant find his (hammer, staple gun, and utility knife), this will not be one of those he gets to borrow!!

  40. My favorite tools are my set of screwdrivers. I can do so much with those little guys :)

  41. I LOVE the Dremel Rotary Tool! That would be WONDERFUL!!! I have wanted one for a few months! !

P.S. I LUV ur blog! Thanks for all you do!

  42. I already have about all of these tools and love my drill, staple gun and glue gun. But I have wanted a Dremel for a while now. Santa, oh Santa…..

  43. I think my most favorite tool is my drill, Though i think sometimes i loose the drill bits! :) My Father in law RAVES about his drimel! :)

  45. I really want a miter saw! I’ve asked for it for Christmas – we’ll see how much Santa likes me!

  46. I love, love, love my little Bosch cordless drill. It is light weight, runs forever on a charge, charges super fast, and has a built in spot light that shines where you are working when the drill is going. It’s so light, I can use it all day without my arm getting tired. The dremel is on my wish list! Oh how I wish for one!

  47. I love my orbital sander! It is my only power tool to date but it has been indispensible in the furniture painting and refinishing I have done over the past year.

  48. I would love to win the Dremel. That and the Drill are at the top of my wish list

  49. Does a stud finder count? I was extremely excited when I received a tool kit that had both a stud finder and a laser level along with the usual fare.

  50. Pick just one? Hmmm…My cordless drill. I use it for everything because it has so many attachments and helps me to snake the sink without getting carpal tunnel. Thanks for the giveaway!

  51. If I had to pick a favorite, I guess I’d say my nail gun/air compressor. Don’t you just love the chu-chunk! sound it makes? But I would LOVE a Dremel. That’s definitely on my Pretty-Please-Santa list.

  52. A new palm sander is on my wish list so we can refinish our dining room table!! What a fantastic list of great things to have for DIY.

  53. i do actually want a dremel! i love DIY projects, but I also love paper-crafty projects – I think my most favorite tool is my utility knife, I use it pretty much every day and in every project somehow!

  54. My husband and I want to buy a compound miter saw for Christmas…we’ll see if we actually bite the bullet and do it! Thanks for the giveaway..

  55. I have plans to restore and refinish some pieces of hand-me-down furniture so a detail sander is definitely on my list!

  57. I do have a tool on my wish list! I’m asking for a power sander this Christmas – my dad is thrilled. :-) I always thank him for taking me along with him to Home Depot and the old Builder’s Square. I think it gave me the DIY bug early on!

  58. I have two tools on my wish list: a DeWalt miter saw, and this wonderful, fabulous, Dremel MultiMax. My whole house needs it!

  59. Oh let’s see….I think I use my glue gun more than anything else…but I did receive a palm sander for Christmas a couple of years back that has come in very handy! A dremel would be very cool to have!

  60. The tool I’d most love to get is definitely the Dremel. We have been wanting to rip the tile on shower wall out and do a smaller colored tile. But to get in the grout, this bad boy is what we’d need! And the fact that it can sand furniture, too?!?! I want this sucker baaaadddd!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  63. Wow. One tool we don’t have is the Dremmel Multi Max Oscillating tool. That would really round out a DIYer’s tool bag nicely! If I could be so lucky to win, oh…the possibilities! Thanks for the opportunity!

  64. What a great list of tools and so helpful. I am a new DIYer and learning about all of this. I would love to start reupholstering a few things so would love a staple gun. I seem to have an obsession with pretty fabrics these days. I also have been very intrigued with the Dremel tool so that would be fun to learn how to use. Thank you for the chance on your generous giveaway! Have a lovely weekend, Kate.

  67. A Dremel kit would be amazing, but the thing I want most is a nice drill and bit set. My boyfriend has a bunch of tools because he used to work construction but he’s always using them and I would love to finally have some of my own.

  68. I have wanted several things on your list, including a DREMEL tool, a jigsaw, and folding saw horses. I’m charging up my cordeless drill right now and just had to go buy some drill bits today so I can install a curtain rod tomorrow…I love power tools! :-)

  69. I love my dad’s compound miter saw. I use it all the time and because it’s his – I don’t have to store it. I’ve not heard of the dremel, but now I totally want one. I wonder if it is too late to change my letter to Santa?

  70. My favorite too is definitely our cordless drill (a craftsman). I use it more than the hubs and it was his Christmas present a few years ago.

  71. I have an old Dremel, it’s awesome so I can only imagine how great a newer one would be! Thanks

  72. I love my compound miter saw! Got it from the hubby for Christmas a few years ago and have used it for many projects (installing all types of moldings, engineered wood flooring, etc.) But I sure would love me a Dremel!!

  73. I really need to get myself a nail gun and compressor. I have a ton of projects that I want to get done, but really can’t do without it. My favorite tool that I have right now is my laser leveler. I don’t know how I would line up pictures without it.

  74. I’ve always wanted a compound miter saw! And yes it scares me but I want one anyway, hehe.

  75. Get. out. That thing looks amazing! Right now we really need a LADDER! I can’t believe we don’t have one! Another favorite/wish list item is a staple gun. Oh how I’d love one of those!

  76. My most often used tool is definitely my staple gun. Love it! I’m wishing for a Dremel though!

  77. I’m a poor college student and newly married, so as you can imagine, only have the very basics of tools. Right now I’m begging my husband for a sander! I just can’t do it by hand anymore! lol!

  78. I’ve been pining for an orbital sander forever, but the other day I was in Home Depot and was drooling over the Dremel. I’m sold! What a cool tool and a cool giveaway!

  79. I don’t have a favorite tool yet, although I must say my Phillips screwdriver has been oh so handy to me over the years. One on my wish list though is an electric paint sprayer to make painting furniture a little bit easier.

  80. Great list, thank you! Would you believe that one of my favorite tools has always been my electric block sander? I’m also pretty fond of my cordless drill. One tool I DON’T have for my historic home restoration projects is that nifty Dremel Multi-Task! How neat! Thank you for the opportunity to WIN IT!

    Have a beautiful weekend!

    : )

  81. I would love a dremel. We want to add glass to our kitchen cabinets and need a dremel to cut out the cabinet face.

  82. Oh awesome! My favorite tool is a paint brush actually! And an air compressor paint gun! :)
This little tool looks so awesome! Thanks for the chance!!

  83. my hubby just recieved a dremel tool for his b-day a few months ago and used it 2 weeks ago in a b-room makeover and he was really happy with it.

  84. My list of wants is (embarrassingly) long, but I think what I want most right now is a nail gun. Oh, and a heavy duty stapler…and a new sander, etc. etc.

  85. I’d love that dremel–I just showed one to my husband last week! :) And you can never have too many old drop cloths and cleaning rags.

  86. I just love me some tools, the miter saw and brad nailer would be on the top of my list right now. Oh, the trim I could put on all those walls. LOVELY!!! Thanks for the give away – so much fun!

  87. I never thought I’d love power tools, but now I do. Hubby and I need more small clamps. That would be on the top of my wish list for this year.

  88. I’d love to get an orbital sander because I have several pieces of furniture that I need to redo. Thanks for this giveaway!

  89. We don’t have many tools, but I love my cordless drill. There are too many tools on our wish list, and we’d love the dremel you wrote about. Thanks!

  90. Thanks Kate for the great gift ideas. It would be wonderful to win the Dremel MultiMax to start off the new year!

  91. My father just made us our first “real” workbench, and all my handy husband wants to go with it is a vise – for opening jars and stuff, of course. I’m the one who wants the jigsaw and orbital sander! Where did I go wrong?

  92. I would have to say my hot glue gun is my fav right now. Of course, it depends what crafty mood I’m in on which one becomes my go-to tool. My Dremel is on its last leg but let me say it has lasted for years! Oh how I would love to win a new one. That would be fantastic! Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win. AJ – [email protected]

  93. I am a newbie at this DIY thing and havent really gotten to do any wood projects yet because I am collecting the tools I need. I would really love to have a Dremel! On my wish list for Christmas is a brad nailer, staple gun, compressor, and soooo much more. :)

  94. I love my cordless drill and I have a palm orbital sander on my wish list. Thank you for the chance to win the Dremel MultiMax Oscillating Tool!

  95. I don’t know the real name of my favorite tool, but it’s a mini claw/crowbar. It gets nails out and pries boards up. We’ve been remodeling and it has been such a wonderful handy dandy thingy!

  96. The spray can adaptor looks pretty cool! My hubby is a gear head and would love these tools! Thats all he would love for Christmas! xoxo

  97. I have always loved a powered screwdriver…what a differnce it makes when you just don’t have the strength to screw or uncrew into a wall or harder surface. It is such a breeze! I have only just started to build my power tools and it is so much fun to see what I can do.

  98. I have a reoccurring dream about owning a jigsaw and making a new headboard every week. Really.

  99. Multi-Mas all the way!!!!!!! I sit here with all my projects thinking how simple they would be if I had one! I’ve been a good girl, honest! 8>)

  100. Mine is simple – staple gun. Sadly, I don’t have one and really need one to do some refinishing I have lined up. It’s on my Christmas list this year, so fingers are crossed!

  101. Right now my favorite tool is the Spray Can Adapter. I use it all of the time and it makes painting so much easier! I really, really, really want to win to win this giveaway!

    Merry Christmas!

  102. LOVE THIS POST!!!!!!

My mother really wants a Dremel for Christmas, so I would love to win her one!

  103. I love our DeWalt drill (which was my husband’s bday present last year, but I am a big fan of it), but I really want a power saw so I can do more home reno myself! The Dremel looks awesome though :)

  104. My Hot Glue Gun is my best friend–there isn’t much I don’t use it for! My husband has been drooling over the Multi-Max every time we are in Lowe’s (which more often than I’d like to admit!). Would love to win it for his birthday!!

  105. I have no tools – I started out simple requesting a power screw driver, but a dremel looks amazing!

  106. I am loving Command Strips this year. Not technically a tool, but they have come in handy many times this month hanging decorations.

  107. Wow! Love the Dremel Multi-Max Tool Kit! (and tired of trying to track down my husbands tools which never seem to be at home!) Maybe I should rethink my Christmas list, stock up on tools and a locked cabinet :)

  108. What I would really like is the miter saw…..love that tool! Hope I win – Merry Christmas to you!

  109. I have had my own cordless drill for over 25 years and love it! While we have a lot of the tools on the list I would love either of the Dremel tools. We recently did a kitchen reno and the contractors were shocked I knew how to use the compound miter saw!

  110. I <3 tools! That Dremel kit has been on my Amazon wish list since you posted about it before. :-)

  111. Well….I’m really wanting a jigsaw….because over my school’s Christmas break (while I’ll only have to work), I fully intend to do that padded headboard!! (since my bed frame has seen better days). And, since I’m a fairly new DIY-er, I find things that I need for my projects (like currently a spray painter gun & a staple gun…I’m a newb) and I try to buy one or two things each project and build it into my project cost. The Dremel would be awesome though!!! The more projects I do, the more I realize how many tools and things I DON’T have, lol. Getting there s-l-o-w-l-y but surely! :)

  112. Ooooooh, a dremel! So cool! I even heard they can be used for nail grinding on dogs :) I also like that spray paint adapter…never seen one of those before! Thanks for another awesome chance to win!

  113. Oh, how I love my circular saw. It was my best friend when I built my chicken coop this past summer!

  114. My favorite tool would be my compound miter saw. BUT if I owned a dremel MultiMax tool, it could easily take over as my fav!
    Thanks for a great giveaway!
    gail

  115. The three tools on the top of my wishlist right now are an electric heavy-duty staple gun, an electric sander, and a better jigsaw. I’ve been putting off making a headboard without them, and honestly, the next time I decide to refinish a couple of tables, I’m heading out to buy the sander first! A dremel would be a huge help to my tool arsenal!

  116. I use my ratcheting screwdriver all the time, especially when I have lots of small screws and the drillmotor is too much power. Great tool list – and that Dremel looks amazing!

  117. The Dremel would be a wonderful! I’ve been thinking about buying a wet saw and learning to tile.

  118. Thanks for the post, Kate! My husband and I don’t have many tools yet, but when we refinished our dining table this summer, I had lots of fun with my dad’s orbital sander!

  119. I love my Milwaukee cordless drill and a stud finder has saved me from disaster on more than one occasion. I would LOOOOOVE to have the dremel…

  120. My favorite tool is the spray can adaptor. It makes a painting job so much easier. Thanks for a chance to win.

  121. I would love to have a drill. I can’t name how many times I’m working on something and having a drill would make it 1000x easier!

  122. My cordless drill is my very best Christmas gift EVER. I have an auger that i use with it and it is a multi season garden essential. From the flats and flats of impatients in the spring thru the pansies and 1000 bulbs in the fall my drill gets a lot of use. There is no way my yard could be the yard it is with out the drill. Of course it could always come inside and just be a tool but that’s what the husband uses it for!

  123. I’m blessed with a hubby who has tools he is happy to share :) We took them all to Argentina when we moved overseas 2 years ago and they’ve come in VERY handy as we’ve tackled new and reno projects. We’re currently in the U.S. (for our daughter’s wedding!) and I would SOOOOO love to take this cute little Dremel set home with me! Especially since we plan on finding good solid OLD furniture and fixing it up. This is JUST THE THING on my wish list for that purpose :) We just haven’t been able to find new stuff to our liking so now the hunt is on for good-bones-but-needs-work pieces that will stand the test of time.

    I hope I win!!!!!!!

  124. Well, My DIY collection is pretty small right now but I find myself using my cordless drill alot but my handy dandy Glue Gun is still my favorite! Thanks for the chance to win this super cool set!
    -Aaron

  125. I need the Dremel tool – it is on my Christmas List. Somehow when I took my “rotary tool” out of the case last, it didn’t work – I blame my 21 yo son but I think that tool (a Sears Craftsman version) was older than he is!

  126. My favorite tool is my Craftsman All-in-one Screwdriver. My husband got it for me for Christmas years ago because I was fascinated with the advertisments (Bob Vila) I’d seen on TV. It has three different philips heads and three different flat heads that slide up and lock in place. It takes up less room in my kitchen catch all drawer, and is right where I need it…except when my husband borrows it for a project!

  127. Hi!
My favorite tool is a drill, because that’s the only tool we have (besides a hand saw, that i never use) I have so many projects that I want to do…it’s time to start building up our collection!

  128. My favorite “tools” are my Purdy paintbrushes and green Frog tape – worth EVERY penny! Oh, does my husband count as a “tool?” I have to give him credit for helping with the heavy lifting on the projects I undertake, haha! Great giveaway!

  129. I am just starting in the world of diy…. this would be a great way to jump right in! I used your list from last year as a guide for my wish list!!
    Merry Christmas!!

  130. My tape measure helps me to dream (and measure) of projects to come. I also love to wear a big ol’ tool belt slung low on the hips and stuff it full of nails. My husband got it for me for my birthday, the coolest gift ever.

  131. Oooohh I wish I could have a Lathe… to make pretty legs for every piece of furniture would be a dream. Love this giveaway!

  132. My fave is the detail sander! I’ve gotten a lot accomplished with my little Mouse Sander! Awesome post…gives me lots of ideas for my list and for the man!!

    jenn.powell AT ymail DOT com

  133. I really want a jigsaw for xmas but i think i wont be getting one so i will be buying one on sale after xmas.

  134. I love my miter saw…doesn’t scare me a bit. Just acccount for all your fingers before lowering the blade, every time! I’ve always wanted a brad nailer. And I’d love to play with a Dremel Rotary Tool!!

  135. My favorite tool is a combination hammer/screw driver set – graduated screw drivers are stored in the handle of the hammer – really comes in handy!

  136. I remember my mom being super excited about a Coping saw one Christmas! :) But I think my favorite tool would be my 5 in one screwdriver! I love how I have two flat head and two phillips head screwdrivers in one tool! :) I’d love the Dremel though! An odd use….but you can use it to trim dog’s nails….just sand them slowly and you’re less likely to cut the vein they have in the nail. :)

  137. I only have the basic tools……nobody understands my fetish with tools and the things you can create with them. I would love to have the Dremel multimax tool or some sawhorses would be nice too.

  138. I would love to have a dremel. WE have so many projects that I could use that on. I am hooked on your site by the way. You do a fantastic job!

  139. My husband and I were watching tv last night and he saw the commercial for the dremel! He said “that would be a great gift for me” Now if I won this it would be a miracle! Any how, my favorite tool is my palm sander. Thanks for the giveway!

  140. My favorite tool is my Makita sander that I have had for about 10 years, what a well made tool. Nice giveaway!

  141. I have had a respirator on my wishlist for a while, but I don’t think my family think I’m serious.

  142. I would love to have get a Skil Saw. So many fun projects haven’t happened because I don’t have one…yet.

  143. Thanks to this blog post, a spray can adapter is now on my Christmas wish list! I didn’t even know those existed, but now I NEED one!!

  144. I love my pliers. Somehow they always come in handy for the oddest tasks. I don’t have much room so a dremel would be a great addition to my efforts to make other people’s castoffs (I’m a grad student) look like they belong in an adult’s apartment . . .

  145. The fvorite tool of my husband is the drill, and definetely the DREMEL Multi mx is now in his wish list! I hope I can win this giveaway for him!

  146. I live in an apartment, so many of the tools aren’t right. I do, however, NEED a new DeWalt cordless drill. I had one a number of years ago, but when I was getting rid of things from my past, I was ready to get rid of one that never worked well and had an ex-boyfriend’s name on it!

I might not be as vertically challenged as you are, but I have an 8 foot ladder that lives behind my bedroom door because the apartment I’m in has an attic only reachable through doors located in the top third of my bedroom wall! Never thought about how much an excellent ladder would change my world!

So – since 2011 is my year of moving forward, I want to start my tool collection! Thanks for the reviews!

  147. I really want to add a Dremel to my toolbox, so this giveaway is great! I also really need sawhorses….

  148. We need a cordless drill – we’ve got two power drills, but they are both corded and a pain in the butt.

  149. I use the staple gun and hot glue gun most frequently, but those dremel tools look amazing!

  150. The Dremel Rotary Tool!! Oh, that’s my hearts desire. And I’d LOVE one this Christmas. =)

  151. I love my power sander! After finding your blog I’ve been inspired and have stopped buying new furniture and started refinishing pieces…such a great stress relief!

  152. Between my toolbox in the house and my husband’s man-cave (garage) we have everything on your list, except for large clamps. We have smaller c-clamps and vises, but no clamps. So clamps are definitely on the wish list.

  153. I just needed the folding saw horses and had to borrow them, that would be sweet to make all projects easier.

  154. I just bought a mini shop vac and I love it. Now my minivan is so clean! Also use my hot glue gun lots but would love to win the dremel!

  155. I would be so thrilled to give a Dremel to my son. He loves to carve and has been using a borrowed Dremel.

  156. I want spool many of these items! Esp the skill and miter saws. But also the saw horses and clamps. A dremmel has also been on the top of my list since I played with my friends last year.

  157. I use the step ladder all the time but the folding saw horses would have come in handy for a recent project.

  158. This is an awesome list, and now I need to ask Santa for a few more things. :)
My favorite tool is probably my palm sander. I use that thing all the time!

  159. I love my tools, too! In fact my cordless drill gets used more than my husband’s humongous cordless drill because it can get in more places.
I drool between the dremel and a compound miter saw.
    Posting on facebook, too.

  160. I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want~an air compressor. Plus attachments. A Dremel Mulitmax would be really cool, too.

  161. Faboulous and thorough list! I now know what to ask for in the future too :)
I would love a drill that is smaller than the mac daddy drill my husband has….something a little lighter too, but with a ton of power. Anyone have suggestions? The Dremel Multi Max looks like such a fun and versatile tool too. That could easily go on my list as well!

  162. My favorite tool that i’ve actually used is my jigsaw…or i should say permanently borrowed jigsaw. its a 1970ish craftsman with a scrolling blade, it truely belongs to my father, but since he hasnt used it in probably 8 years, i’ve adopted it. My favorite tool that I don’t actually own is the dremel with all the bells and whistles. I’m hoping to either *WIN* it here or Iguess i’ll break down and buy it because i’m about to make my own chinchilla cage and could use some tools to makesure there are no harsh edges and cut wood and metal quickly and easily.

  163. I just bought a drill and I know it will be useful for hanging drapes and curtains in my new house. I also have my eye on that dremel because I have a lot of projects to tackle in the new house, including sanding down the kitchen cabinets.

  164. I’m still a beginner, so I’m still enamored of my cordless screwdriver. My boyfriend got it for me last year, and I didn’t think I’d ever use it. Then I bought a house. (A-ha!)

  165. I would love an orbital sander. My husband has had his eye on the Dremel for quite awhile though- it would be a great present for him!

  166. I would love to have a brad nailer & an orbital sander. I love all my tools ! It would be great to win this!

  167. I am commenter #288 or 289…depending on how fast I am. My favorite tool is my little cordless girlie drill/screwdriver combo. It has helped me with many projects and my husband doesn’t want to use it. ;-)

    Dixie

  168. What a fabulous list, I suddenly realize I’m horribly ill prepared. A great cordless drill would be high up on my list, but really, all of these along with an organized garage would be heaven!
    Janell

  169. My husband was actually showing me the Dremel he wants last week. He really needs this! I really want a better power sander. One where you don’t have to cut the sandpaper and fanangle (that’s a word) it on!

  170. I would love to get an air compressor…it would make my upholstery projects SO much easier!

  171. I would LOVE a Dremel! We have most of the other tools you mentioned, but that one would be fun!

  172. I would absolutely Love a nail gun or a router! We have seriously limited tools in our collection but we DO have a dremel which I adore…..

Thank you for the fab tool posting! Tools are so much fun…

If only I could win me a workshop to put them all in! <3

  173. I’m so proud of me – I have most of the tools you listed. But …. what I want for Christmas is the hole saw kit or DREMELDREMELDREMEL!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!

  174. I love the Dremel tool, my husband has one, but is very protective of it!!! I would would love to have one of my own. But I think my favorite and most used tool is my staple gun.

  175. Oh! I would love the Dremel! or the spray paint gun or the air compressor or the…. I need to add to my christmas wish list.

  176. My favorite tool is the mini screwdriver kit–three flat head, three Phillips head. I start to panic if one is missing!

  177. I have to admit that my favorite tools are a hand held screw-driver and measuring tape. I carry them in my purse at all times. Not to mention that they can double as self-defense weapons…Waapow!!!!

But I so wish I had most of those tools you’ve mentioned. Specially a Jigsaw or the DREMEL Kit.

  178. Too funny you did this posting! I just asked for and received an orbital sander for my b-day (12/3) after hand sanding a table and chairs set down to the wood to refinish them, then finding out AFTER I’ve applied a layer of stain one of my little “helpers” had done some sanding with 80 grit paper on it!!!! I was so excited to get that sander that I could barely open it with my sore, club-like hands fast enough:) Now I’m begging for a compound miter saw and a Dremmel! Put me on your list:) Merry Christmas!

  179. Sawhorses, definitely….there’ve been so many projects my husband and I needed sawhorses for and yet, for some reason, we have yet to actually buy them. Instead, we balance whatever it is we’re cutting/painting/fixing atop the wobbly ping pong table that’s in our garage. Don’t know why don’t take the plunge and buy a set (or make them!).

As for the Dremel Kit…my best friend and Etsy partner has been wanting one of these tools forever. I’d give it to her (because she’d give the shirt of her back to me if I needed it :)

  180. I am just beginning the jump into many DIY projects so right now my favorite tool is the hot glue gun but I quickly see my stash of tools growing! I would LOVE a Dremel- already dreaming of the things that could be done with that little guy!

  181. The first tool I bought for myself is a drill and I use it all the time. I love all kinds of tools, they make life so much easier! I always wanted the Dremel, it’s so versitile!

  182. I have been eyeballing that dremel for sometime now. It would be great to own one. Picking out a favorite tool is akin to favoring a child. They all have their uses! This is like “Sophie’s Choice.” O.K., I pick the orbital sander!!!

  183. i guess i would love the sawhorses so i could make a table with an old door. i need one for my craft room for my grandchildren to do their crafts on.

  184. I love my dewalt drill as well. It has gotten me through so many home projects, I know their signature yellow color from miles away. I just wish they would make a pink on with that quality. LOL

  185. Between my husband and me the Dremel Multimax tool is the only one we don’t have. It would be a great addition to our tool supply.

  186. Oh how I love power tools & really need to start building a stash of them since bought our new house! I’ll need them for all of our projects I’m planning!

    Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

    Merry Christmas!

  187. I’m fortunate that my husband is a contractor, I have most of the tools I need at my disposal. I am wishing for a jigsaw and definitely a Dremel. We purchased one a couple years ago and I LOVED it! Unfortunately, it was lost in a move.

  188. i’m obsessed with my cordless power drill/screwdriver! it’s great for hanging pictures and putting together furniture!

  189. My favorite tool is a palm size electric sander. Fits perfectly in my hand and not too heavy.

  190. I live in New York City= limited space and no garage for a lot of the projects I would love to try. I just recovered my head board though and am dying to add nailhead trim. My wish list is the rubber mallet for sure! That Durmel looks pretty compact though, so I certainly would not mind adding one of those babes to my collection as well :)

  191. I would LOVE the dremel multimax tool….I coould certainly use it during my living room remodel…I could sand down an old craft table that IM going to put in there….and remove my baseboard…IM going to post this on twitter!!

  192. My fav tool of all time is the Dewalt Cordless Nail Gun. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used it, and best of all, there are no compressor cords to drag around! But 2 things I REALLY want: Table Saw (there are only so many things a chop saw works for!!) and a small sander for getting into those small spaces!

  193. Spray can adapter is my stocking stuffer of choice. Just getting started on more involved DIY projects so I am starting small. DH already has some of the other tools and…. lucky for me I know where he hides them.

  194. A dremel is on my wish list!!! It would make a lot of my projects so much easier! Posting to my FB!

  195. I probably use my staple gun the most, but I’m hoping to do some board and batten this holiday break so I could see some major tools coming in handy… fun!

  196. My favorite tool is an orbital sander for refinishing furniture–but I love my husband’s welder and plasma cutter (I just don’t use them!)…and I would very much like to have a Dremel. I bought one for my mom for Christmas one year, and there’s been many times I have wished I had one of my own–thanks for offering one to us!!

  197. I would love an artistic fairy that could take the ideas in my head and turn them into reality… not exactly a tool, but the thing I need the most!

  198. I’ve gotta admit the large clamps are a great item to add to a well rounded tool bench. Clamps are so necessary for a multitude of jobs. Cant say I don’t miss the old shop vac we used to have up north. Super item for cleaning out the boat and car too; let alone all the inside work.

    Cheers,
    Brenda

  199. I actually saw that Dremel on a commercail and thought it would be really cool to have. My husband would love it!

  200. My favorite tools are my miter saw and my nail gun. I do have a kreg jig on my wish list for Christmas, as well as a router tool, so the Dremel would be a nice addition!!! What a great giveaway!!

  201. I’d like to have an orbital sander. Our old one pales in comparison. Although the Dremel sounds like a handy tool too.

  202. I love, love, love my Dremel! I have some old keys that need to be buffed, and since they are larger, I need to find a tool that would be easy to handle, but will get the job done. So far nothing has felt right.

  203. I love my Dremel, and I’ve shown marvelous restraint on buying all the accessories for it so far. But that will probably change soon.

  204. my circular saw is my favorite tool. i use my orbital sander all the time, too, but for some reason, my saw just makes me feel way cooler. ;)

  205. I love a good drill, but my Mouse sander just broke, so I guess that’s at the top of my list right now :)

  206. the DREMEL the DREMWEL, the Dremal, did I mention the Dremel. This is on my wish-list, I was just talking to my Dad about wanting one two days ago.

Right now my favorite power tool is my Dewalt Palm Sander!

  207. I absolutly love my dremel tool, not only for household projects but for finishing off my silver jewlery designs, it is soooooooo versitle.

  208. My favorite tool has got to be my sander….and I would love to get my hands on a Dremel!!! There is so much you can do with that handy thing!

  209. My favorite (as in the one I use the most) is definitely my cordless drill/screwgun. So, I would add a magnetic bit holder to your list. It makes things much easier! Thanks for the great giveaway!

  210. A mitre saw is awesome (and I use it a lot), but I truly love my Kreg jig! Pocket holes rock! :)

  211. I don’t have a lot of tools, but that paint can adapter looks really handy. This post has made my Christmas list a lot longer!

  212. I am new to the DIY world….but I recently painted stripes in my laundry room, and found a paintbrush without a handle to do the corners, edging, it….I’m petite, and it fit my hands perfectly.

  213. I would really like to start doing DIY projects, and I only own a hammer. I suppose the one thing I would like right now would be a drill.

  214. My tool wish list is long, but I’ll name a few……a kreg jig or planer would be awesome!

  215. I am in need of many of the tools in your post. Would love a new cordless drill, a sander or a staple gun. And of course I would gladly take the dremel too. Thanks for the chance to win.

  216. Oh my, I just asked Hubby to get me a Dremel for my birthday! I really, really want one! He has a tool just like the Dremel Max (just another brand, but all the same capabilities) he loves it, and I keep having to ask him to bring it home so I can use it on different projects. He’s getting tired of bringing it home for me, so it would be great to have one here at home! Thanks for doing this giveaway!

  217. I really like my paint sprayer it makes painting jobs so easy and it just uses regular paint.

  218. We just got back from the hardware store, and my husband and I were both ogling the Dremel Multimax they had on display!

  219. My husband had one years ago and I used it to try to cut ceramic tile. Obviously I did something wrong b/c I burned out the motor and it no longer works. To this day, he still gives me grief about his Dremel tool that I broke. I would love to be able to replace it with a newer, fancier version of what I broke!

  220. My favorite tool is a screw driver these days… getting ready for Christmas adding batteries to toys… you need it… I wonder it the Dremel could make opening the “lowjack” on toys any easier??

  221. A jigsaw is definitely #1 on my wish list. Let’s hope once I get one I don’t cut my fingers off…

  222. I asked Santa for a miter saw but he didn’t believe me, so I may have to shop for it myself after the New Year. I want to add quarter round molding to the baseboards all over the house to give that high-end finished look…and do it myself!

  223. The Dremel tool is, has been and always will be on my wish list until I get one! I’ll be looking forward to more from you; love your site.

  224. I’ve been dying for a Dremel for a couple of years now. I would really love to win this!

  225. Its hard to pick one favourite, but we could definitely use a good cordless drill/screwdriver. Thanks!

  226. I would love a mouse sander, I just refinished an end table and it would of been really handy. I LOVE your blog…I am so addicted!!

  227. My favorite tool is my Makita power drill. I spent too many years using a wimpy, sad excuse for a drill. This thing changed my life.

I bought my Dad the Dremel Mulit-max for Xmas this year and I’m so tempted to keep it……

  228. I really have been looking at the multi-max dremel. I here it is wonderful for removing old grout.

  229. I love my cordless power tools- All of them! One battery powers them all (I have two so I can interchange them) and they go anywhere.

I would love a Dremel multi max!

  230. Multi-Max Dremel is my dream tool. To be able to cut in tight spaces would be a huge benefit not to mention all of its other uses. I hope Santa brings me a MMD! I REALLY want one of these tools!

  231. My favorite tool is a vintage long-handled axe with a spike on one side that we picked up in an auction lot. It’s great for prying up roots, and there are quite a few overgrown or just plain ugly trees and bushes in our new home that I’ve been working on killing. We also used it to remove a metal shed base frame and break up the old, crumbling concrete around it. Old tools are awesomely sturdy.

  232. My glue gun is the one tool I really couldn’t do without. The addition of a Dremel would be great.

  233. My orbital sander! I messed up my stair hand-rail refinishing the first time because I sanded manually and didn’t go deep enough – the stain all came off when I wiped it! The second time around, I took that sucker down, secured it to the work bench in the garage, and had at it with my orbital (just a dinky little Jobmate, but it was $4 on clearance so hey!). Handrail is now beautiful dark walnut! :)

  234. I YEARN and PINE for a nail-gun… a friend brought theirs in with a compressor, to help us hang some picture rail trim and I felt drool running down my chin. Not your “typical” gal I suppose… Funny enough I asked my in-laws for a gift certificate for Lowes for Christmas-weird-O!

  235. I am new to the DIY crafts. I borrowed some tools but would like my own any would be so helpful but that Dremel seems faboulos!!! Thanks for the great giveaway.

  236. I would love to try the dremel three in one. You are suppose to be able to use it as a router! Too cool! I do love the compound miter saw I received for Christmas years ago!

  237. I would love a dremel tool! I also want a drill of my own. My husband takes his to work with him (he’s a contractor), and I can’t use it during the day.

  238. dude!!!!
i’d take anything, i really love to make stuff, but it’s hard to wood work b/c i don’t have a power sander and/or dremmel and/or jigsaw etc etc….
    pick me!!!!!!!!!!

  239. A 12″ miter saw. I almost bought my husband one for Christmas (dual purpose :)) , but I got him a set of air nailers instead.

  240. I would love a power stapler for upholstery. My hands aren’t strong enough these days for a regular one.

  241. Wow, tools are all my husband and I are asking for this Christmas. I have tons of DIY projects I want to start around the house, but it’s kind of hard without the tools! The tools we probably need most are sanders, saws, etc, and of course I would LOVE a Dremel!! Thanks for the great giveaway!!

  242. I only dream of having a favorite tool. I just have a standard tool box at my disposal but I have often thought how nice it would be to have a sander. the Dremel could come it super handy!

  243. My favorite tool is our cordless drill, so I don’t have to get my hubs to help. His favorite is his Dremmel, and boy would he love the Muliti-Max!

  244. My husband has a ton of tools I can always use. But a Dremel would be heaven, and all mine.

  245. I for sure covit that Dremel multi-tool. Even my 5 year old knows how much I want one after watching the 2 hour infomercial with me on one similar.
This is now posted on my facebook page!!

  246. my husband LOVES LOVES LOVES the Dremel Multi-Max tool. i first saw it used on This Old House last year and recorded the episode because it was so impressive how they used it to cut the bottom out from a door jam so they could install wood flooring. he was hooked & went out and bought one immediately. he uses it for everything he can think of. i’m just waiting for the day i walk into the kitchen and he’s figured out how to use it for making pasta!

  247. Oooh! My wish list: everything from above! My fav tool: since I’m currently refinishing my dining room table, right now its my hand sander.

    Thanks for the giveaway CG!

  248. I definitely think the cordless drill is the most essential, but the nail gun is the most fun!

  249. I saw the infomercial for the Dremel, and I fell in love instantly!! A Dremel is definitely on my wishlist!

  250. Before I read your post I most wanted a miter saw. But now I really want a Dremel Multimax. Thanks for this fabulous list.

  251. Ah! A Dremel has totally been on my list since I saw its commerical at the gym and almost tripped off the treadmill when I saw all that it could do. I hope I win!!

  252. I saw a new cool tool I’d like to have. It’s an adjustable one size fits all socket wrench.

  253. I would love love love to have a GOOD cordless drill/screwdriver thingy.Just to jang pictures and do little jobs, you know? All the models I’ve tried have had the battery life of a sand flea.

But the Dremel would also be fantastic!

  254. Definitely the folding sawhorses! We have a tiny shed and no garage and I just realized how much work surface I can gain by pulling them out and throwing a sheet of plywood on top. Perfect!

  255. I love my Black and Decker drill. I couldn’t live without it. I asked for a Dremel this year, but I didn’t know about the multi-max, that looks fantastically useful!

  256. I would love to have my own Dremel set. I used to borrow my Dad’s but moved far away from him. But I think my next tool purchase will be a rubber mallet.

  257. I have most of the items on your list from all our DIY, but I really want a power caulk gun. We caulk ALL the time and our gun is such a pain. That would be great to have!

  258. I want some saw horses and a nice big piece of plywood. I’m tired of painting things on the ground!

  259. My favorite tool that we have is my nail gun. The power is intoxicating! I really want to get/learn how to use a lathe though so that’s on my Christmas list.

  260. Oh a skilsaw and jigsaw are both on my husband’s wish list. I think once I show him the dremel, that will also be added to the list. :)

  261. My new tool on my list would be a paint sprayer. But one little tools that I love and that would make a great stocking stuffer is a 7 in1 tool. Nothing fancy but comes in handy for scraping, spackling and lots of things!

  262. Thank you for hosting this giveaway! My favorite tool is my miter saw – I use it quite a lot!

  263. I would love to have a Dremel MultiMax. Next on my list, a compound dual bevel miter saw. Grteat post. Ann

  264. OOOOOOOOOoooooooo! We have so many projects planned for January. We choose the Dremel MultiMax!!

  265. I’m just getting into DIY projects. However, my husband has been DIYing for a bit. I would really like a sander. Our dining table needs work. Thank you for this giveaway.

  266. Hubs and I are in the process of buying our first home, and consequently, tools. A compound miter saw is first on my list.

  267. I want the Multi-Max! I have to start painting our old house with the flaky paint, and the paint removal tool would be a boon!

  268. I guess what I really want is an updated operating system because I can’t easily access your comments. Maybe you should alow older operating systems tp get in on the action. Obviously. I’m not investingin the upgrade, so how about some love for us poor people? Anyway. I’d lpve a dremel, but, more importantlly, I’d love to be able to enter these contests easily!

  269. I don’t know if it qualifies as a tool, but I’m a costumer and I’d die without a glue gun. Short of that, I use a level a heck of a lot.

  270. OH MY GOSH, I would LOVE to win the Dremel Multi MAX!! I have oodles of projects that are just waiting for the right tools. AND my birthday is the 13th… so I’m thinking a Dremel is in my future, one way or the other. Thanks for all the awesome info!

  271. OH MY GOODNESS! I couls soooo use this in my collection! I was just talking to my BFF whos new husband is useless with tools. I was trying to give her a list of all the ones I use frequently that she should invest in for herself – I’ll just send her your list! I would add my trusty old caulk gun to the list, though. Love!

  272. I have been wanting a Dremel for years…now my husband told me that my in-laws are giving me a multi tool something like Dremel….BUT NOT !!!! I really don’t want to be ugly about it. I will be grateful for whatever I get, but I really really want a Dremel !!!!!!!!!!

  273. THe orbital sander {LOVE} or my Wagner paint sprayer! LOVE that too!
    clsch6(at)gmail(dot)com

  274. My favorite tool is a basic corded drill. I can use it as a drill, but I also can attach a bulb auger to it and plant bulbs in my hard soil.

  275. What a great list! I (or rather, my hubby) have most of the stuff at the beginning of the list…hoping to expand my arsenal gradually. I borrowed my dad’s power sander recently and LOVED (!) it, so I definitely want one of those!

  276. I think the saw horses would be oh-so handy. Better than the recycling bins I’ve pressed into service before! I would love a Dremel. <3

  277. Tools…hhhmmm…does microfiber cloths for cleaning count.

I’m not very handy, but I am always inspired with your skills.

  278. We would love a new drill. Ours works but it is a quite a pain in the butt. That that Dremel multitask tool looks pretty sweet too!

  279. Fantastic list, and my favorite , only because it makes so much sense and makes life so much easier for just a few dollars is the spray paint can adapter. My fingers think so as well!

but a dremel would really be awesome, my husband just retired and I have so many projects in mind.

  280. I would love the Dremel tools! Those are the only things on your list I don’t currently have.

  281. My favorite go to tool, is actually my husband. He has tons of construction/destruction toys and loves that I find interesting ways for him to use them for our many house projects. However sometimes, being the guy that he is, his work is a little heavy handed and the details definitely need a woman’s touch to smooth it out and make it all come together. This set of tools would be a perfect compliment for me to have to his garage full of power tools.

  282. My favorite tool is my sander. And believe it or not, I do not own a staple gun, so that’s on my wish list!

  283. I fell in love with the Dremel when I saw it yesterday at Home Depot! It is definitely on my christmas list.

  284. I am lusting after the new Dremel tool! The things I could make with that, oh boy! And I was so excited when I got sawhorses for my birthday one year…of course my girlfriends thought I was nuts but it was just what I had been wanting, folding sawhorses!

  285. Dremel, dremel, dremel, hurrah for the dremel! Also, the detail sander, I call it my mouse sander. I started to make some ‘wood’ stones today to cover a chest I got at the thrift store and used it. I have most of the tools you have (not the compound saw, lucky you!!) and some others you did not list (pipe wrenches, a woman needs to be able to plumb!!). What I could do with this great prize!
    Thanks for the opportunity.

  286. I would love a Dremel tool! I have always wished for a router and finally received one for my birthday today! Hubby also got me a 40 piece router bit set!

  287. I love my sander, use it all the time and i am about ready for a new one. We also need a new cordless drill but i would love a Dremel!

  288. My favorite tool is my cordless screwdriver. It has helped me put together so many things. I would a dremel, it’s been on my wish list!

  289. Never thought I needed a rotary tool, but the one in the post looks really useful. Cordless screwdriver probably gets the most use in these parts.

  290. My favorite tool is a small set of 5 tiny screwdrivers (flat/phillips). It’s always in the drawer and handy for so many things.
Gadget Wise: I liked to add that I couldn’t live without my battery tester. It is small and less than $10, and it has saved me from tossing out good batteries just b/c one is bad. Love it!!

  291. My favorite tool right now is my drill. However, we close on a house this Thursday and we will need this Dremel!

  292. My favorite tool at the moment is the jigsaw. I just started using it, and it was surprisingly easy to operate. I was intimidated for no reason! On my must-get list is a detail sander.

  293. I’m pretty much a fan of the whole Dremel family, thanks to my dad! I’d love to have a new one of my own, and anyone who isn’t familiar with ’em should get to it right away!

  294. I am in the market for a power sander right now – I’m just learning and trying to perfect a smooth paint job – no brush strokes! I like your list and would add a pair of loooonnnnng tweezers. Had to buy these when my little one put pennies in the CD player, but I’ve used them lots of times and for lots of other random things!

  295. Well, I’m actually in need of a sander at this current moment, however, a dremel wouldn’t hurt. :D

  296. Love this Dremel MultiMax! I would definitely put it on my wish list.

We have the original, which is one of my all time favorites.

But I have to say that my rotary cutter, which may not really be in this category, is the tool I use most.

  297. Honestly, my favorite tools are my hot glue gun (is that really a tool???) and my mouse sander!

  298. My hand held drill is my favorite tool! My father-in-law was mortified when I asked for it for Christmas many years ago, and refused to give it to me. He wrapped it up, and put my husband’s name on it instead. My husband never touched it, except to hand it over to me!

  299. I love love my jigsaw – definitely my favorite tool so far. On my wish list is an orbital sander. I have a few tables/dressers I want to refinish .. and am considering painting my kitchen cabinets on my own next year!

  300. I want a nail gun so bad!I have a lot of trim I want to put up and having one would make it that much easier = )

  301. My dream tool is a power sander. I’m currently using blocks sanders and although it gets the work done, it KILLS my arm and hand. Oh, Santa please try and find a way to place one under my tree. I’ve been a good girl : )

  302. I want the under the roof picture hanging tool
It is fairly inexpensive and I have never been able to really hang a picture well

  303. I am working through my fear of power tools, and have been making friends with my drill. Last month, I put up a wooden plaque with hooks that I’d bought FIVE years ago, and I even hung some bamboo shades in the dining room — it may sound pathetic to those of you who are handy, but it was a real triumph and so empowering. I felt like Queen of the World! I have a palm sander, but I’d love an orbital one. And I really, really want to learn how to cut wood, so a Skilsaw is also on the list.

Thanks for this article; it was really useful! And thanks for the chance to win the Dremel, too!
With a big Christmas “wave” from Cape Cod,
    Jude

  304. Oh, the dremel is a dream gift for me! I’m trying to learn to do all that you do and it would help me soooo much! Thanks for the giveaway!

  305. i’ve got an orbital sander on my wishlist…
    also a nail gun…
i got a laser level last year…LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

  306. nice list, very impressive. the Dremel is definitely on my wish list. Thanks and happy holidays :)

  307. My favorite tool is my Kreg pocket Hole Jig!! It is so easy to use and i can make so many cool things!!

  308. I am a glue gun gal. . the cordless kind I love!! But I would love to become a drill gal or a Dremeal gal or a sander gal. I need to get over my hubby is better at this than me so I will leave it to him to do the drill, sanding, Dremeling. . .Thanks for the opportunity to win a Dremel. . wow!!

  309. On my wishlist this year: a cordless drill and bits. Whenever I am doing a project I can never find my husbands tools. I plan to build by own collection of tools so that I never have to track his down again!

  310. The Dremel looks awesome and I would love it! We also need a new drill, as I managed to break the cord when I left the “key” to adjust the tightness in when I was mixing tile grout and now it’s spliced and taped – not super safe!

  311. On my wishlist for my husband’s sake is the dremel tool. He has been drooling over them and tells me that it is essential to all of the DIY projects that I ask him to do!

  312. I’ve been wanting a pair of those folding sawhorses for years. Maybe someday. Though a Dremel is a very, very close 2nd!

  313. I like my stud finder. I’d love to have the new dremel tool – it would be nice to have the little jigsaw type tool for a few upcoming projects.

  314. My tool wish list includes a staple gun and the spray paint adaptor. I sure hope Santa thinks I’ve been good so I can find these under the tree on Christmas morning! Thanks for another awesome giveaway and for your list of “must have” tools.

  315. My current favorite tool is my random orbital sander that I received for my birthday this year. I am dying for a Dremel this year to help with all of the projects in our brand new home that we just purchased!

  316. I’d love the chance to enter your fab giveaway.
The Dremel has been on my wish list for years!

  317. I’ve got several of the tools on your list (although your ability w/ *real* power tools, like the saws) leaves me awestruck (I’m a real wimp when it comes to heavy-duty power tools :- ). That said, though .. I will be stopping by my local hardware store this week to pick up one of the spray paint adaptors you mentioned, since I LOVE spray paint! And, to date, my favorite tool is my cordless drill, although I long for a good cordless screwdriver (for some reason, the screws in my drill don’t work too well) and a Dremel! Those tools are amazing .. they take crafts and DIY projects to a whole new level of ability and expertise!

  318. This year on my Christmas list I have an orbital sander and I am also in need of a spray paint adapter – have developed quite an addiction to spray paint! :)

  319. Oh how I would love the the dremel, would just need to hide it from the hubby. I keep much better care of my tools than he does, so he’s only allowed to borrow mine-hee hee! The other thing on my list is a paint sprayer!! Thank for having this open to Canadians too-muchly appreciated.

  320. Enter me, please! I’d love a Dremel!! My favorite tool in the world is my drill driver. Can’t live without it!

  321. We love my husband’s mitre saw. The dremel set would be a fantastic addition to our tool family! Thanks for the chance to win.

  322. On my wish list I would have to say a jigsaw but my husband loves his dewalt cordless drill. Thanks!

  323. I am wishing for a Kreg jig tool for Christmas! But that Dremel tool looks awesome, my fingers are crossed!!

  324. I need a new miter saw. I’ve been borrowing a friend’s for over a year. Time to buy my own! I also want the Dremel tool kit. Too many tools, so little money :(

  325. My favorite tool is my handy staple gun. I’d love to have that Dremel multi tool – it’d make many DIY projects easier!

  326. My favorite tool these days are my orbital sander and my little pink power screwdriver. I have wanted the Multimax for a year now, thought I was getting one but the husband got me the Trio I did not have the heart to tell him he bought the wrong thing dumb husbands LOL

  327. I’ve started my own little collection and have acquired most of my tools as a hand me down from my dad (who no longer works with DIY projects), so that saved me some money. I’m still new to the whole DIY thing, but I’ve been wanting a dremel and a detail sander. Those are on my wish list this year. =)

  328. We just hit up the Lowe’s black Friday sale and my new favorite is the sander we picked up since we have been refinishing a serpentine buffet. A Dremel Multi Max would be an amazing addition to our garage!

  329. Oh wow…I love so many of these! My wish list: a skilsaw or shop vac or Dremel, but for a long time I have civeted the brad nailer…not sure why, just do. Happy Holidays to all!

  330. My Christmas wish list includes a lot of these tools since we’re buying our first home and it needs A LOT of work. I think the tool I’d like the most would be the Dremel MultiMax because it has so many wonderful uses to remodel a bath or kitchen, plus it works as a nail file for my dog.

  331. Well, the Dremel would be sweet to win. The staple gun sounds great too as does the jig. Say, any and all of the tools would find a warm and cozy welcome under my tree…are you listening, Santa?
    Thanks for the swell giveaway.

  332. We’ve been using a drill quite frequently in our new house…and we are always looking for new tools for my crazy project ideas! My husband will love having this tool in his collection!

  333. I would love a dremel. I am a recent college grad who is trying to make it in the working world in SF and need to make my little apartment look home-y for reasonable prices. BTW i love this website and it has completely inspired me to DIY almost everything!

  334. A Dremel is for sure on my wish list but my got to have tool that most do not have would be my strap wrench!

  335. I just ordered a Leatherman Charge TTi. Hasn’t arrived yet, so it is still on my wish list. :) And that MultiMax would make my holidays as well! Thanks!

  336. I love my awl. It makes great holes so you can get the screw/nail in a one time try. Everyone needs to purchase electrician scissors they cut everything I now carry them in my back pocket all day.

  337. I would love a Dremel tool! My favorite tools are 409 and micro fiber cloths for DIY clean up. I have found the micro fiber cloths are the best cloths for painting with. I’m a sloppy painter but these babies assure me a professional look when I am done.

  338. I ruin more projects not having the proper tools. I’m sure that dremel would be a dream come true.

  339. Oooooohhhhh Im keeping an eye on those sanders what I wouldnt give for those. While manually sanding is great for my right arm to become super sleek I cant say I enjoy it. =/

  340. I don’t have a sander, so I would for sure choose that! :) Thanks for the give away!

    Merry Christmas!

  341. I have been borrowing my dad’s Dewalt drill to make shelves and I love it. I’d say a good drill is essential for many projects from diy to crafting. I need to purchase one for myself to replace my cheapo drill. The dremel multimax oscillating tool look pretty fantastic too!

  342. I would like a jigsaw…I have really been wanting to try to make my own upholstered headboard.

  343. Ironically, for the past two weeks my husband and I have drooled over this Dremel infomercial that seems to air quite a bit on Friday and Saturday nights. We definitely need one!

  344. I ‘ll love to get a power sander for my furniture projects!!!
    best regards,
    Wanda

  345. I’m wishing for a jigsaw… and a nail gun…and a dremel! Any and all would make me happy!

  346. I shared this post with my friends on my facebook page. I also remembered that I want a new orbital sander.

  347. Wow the The Dremel MultiMax Oscillating Tool is EXACTLY what I need! What a great giveaway!! :D

  348. My current favorite tool is the Irwin clamp we used to make a table top for my pitiful old table.

  349. I sent a wish list to my parents and the entire list is tools! I would love a sander, jigsaw, and a dremel.

  350. The tool I use the most is definitely my (husband’s!) 16 volt cordless drill. We have old plaster walls so we can’t just hammer into them. We are about to start on our nursery and we have both been drooling over the Dremel oscillating multi-tool. At some point we have to do something about our old parquet floors as well and removing the old baseboard and trim would be so much easier with the Dremel. Love your ideas and inspirations. Thanks!

  351. I would love own a Dremel and give it a try! a power sander would be great, too! I just bought the detail sander because of your recommendation and love it. Kim

  352. after seeing your work – I want the spray paint can adapter…never heard of it before!

  353. My Husband and I would love to have the Dremel Multimax. We have a Dremel but not this beauty!

  354. My favorite tool is our miter saw but since I’ve never tried the Dremel multimax it may give our saw some serious competition.

  355. I am hoping Santa brings me a brad nailer this year. I think I will now have to add a dremel to my list!

  356. How I would love a jigsaw because I want to make my grandsons a set of wood blocks. We are actually borrowing a friends dremmel at this time:{o Would love that one!

  357. favorite tool is a hammer. Nothin’ like a good traditional whack on a nail to get your juices flowing! Compound mitre saw and dremel are on our wish list for sure!

  358. Oh my, this post is perfect timing!! My birthday is the 19th and I’m asking for power tools! My husband thinks I have lost my mind, but I’m determined to get more involved in my projects, and just being a craftier gal in general. I have already purchased a nail gun for my hubby for Christmas, and I can’t wait to see what he’s gotten for me – I asked for a sander, jigsaw and paint sprayer so we’ll which one(s) I get. It would be FANTASTIC to add a Dremel to my new collection of tools :)

  359. I own all until we get to the sawhorses. Do not have those – would be handy. But what I really want to try is that spray paint can adapter. Wohoo that looks fun!

  360. Great list!! The power sander saves so much time when sanding those cabinets down! Now if only I had a shopv ac to vacuum up all the dust! Just have a cheap little hoover that blows a lot of it around, lol.

  361. I would love a miter saw. We have borrowed my dad’s on occasion and I feel so much more productive when I’m using it. I don’t like circular saws, they scare me. Oh, of course, I would also love a Dremel tool. That has been on my list for a few years now, I just never save the money to buy it.

  362. We got that same drill as a wedding present, and it is the best tool to have! Saved my husband’s sanity when he was building our fence… we are also best friends with our beloved Shop Vac, which we use all the time during our renovations.

  363. Right now, my favorite tool is a power screwdriver – it’s the only power tool I have! I’d love the Dremel as a good start to a collection.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  364. One of my favourite tools is the laser level. It makes hanging pictures a snap! I would love to see if a Dremel might really be my favourite tool!

  365. Current favorite: My new Milwaukee cordless drill/driver & impact driver set with bits–love, love, love! Wish list: You got it–the Dremel Multi-Max; I currently try to improvise with other tools and elbow grease (or skip it entirely) to do what the Dremel could do efficiently and professionally. It’s a dream tool. Thanks for the constant inspiration!

  366. Oh my goodness, what a list! I want one of each:o) My hubby just gave me a tool set with a drill and I’ve used it once…but I still beg him to do the dirty work for me (just call me chicken)! I have been eyeing over a dremel for quite some time.

  367. With my new baby, I’m kinda tethered to the living areas, and can’t be in the cold garage refinishing things as I’d like! So, I asked for crafty items…. self healing cutting mat is the big one!

  368. Wow! What a great giveaway! I would love this tool. My favorite tool thus far in my DIY experience is probably a hammer, so simple but so resourceful.

  369. I have never entered a give away before but this one seems to be calling my name! I know my tool wish list is a mile long, but a Dremel is numero uno!

  370. I decided that if I won a Silhouette after Thanksgiving, I would ask Santa for a Dremel Multi-Max. But Santa’s getting me that Silhouette I didn’t win. So maybe this is my chance! :)

  371. Does a snow blower count, ’cause I want one RIGHT NOW!!! I’m trapped behind 1/4 mile of packed snow…. silenttributary at yahoo dot com

  372. I sleep with my dewalt ,dremel is looking real good right now for Mr. Dewalt to take a break .

  373. I just moved into my first house and I need it all. I think a cordless drill would be the most useful to start, but I have a few projects that could use the dremel!

  374. I definitely have a staple gun on my list. It will be very useful in helping me finally finish those dining room chairs I’ve been working (or not working) on for months now (so many stupid, frustrating staples).

  375. Oh goodness how I love tools! I could really use that compound miter saw to cut my crown molding! That’s on our wish list this year.

  376. My shopvac JUST broke. I never knew I used that thing so much, until it broke. I also use my screwdrivers a lot, but their scattered all over the house! I promise I’ll keep this set ALL TOGETHER! Merry Christmas and your house decorations are lovely.

  377. I have actually had my eye on the dremel for my next tool to add to the arsenal. A skill saw would be nice too.

  378. I want a miter saw the most, but I wouldd take anything because I just don’t have that many tools!

  379. I would love any sort of new drill. Our old one is on the fritz and it would be nice to have one that works!

  380. As I scanned your favorite tools I realized that I have almost all of them except for the Dremel Multi-Max, which I would love to add. My favorite is my shop vac. What a workhorse! I’ve used it frequently for the last ten years both inside and out. I’d be lost without it.

  381. The Dremel looks so convenient! I recently borrowed one from a friend for a project and it was a breeze. I’d love one of my own.

  382. It’s ironic that you highlighted the Dremel tool because I have been salivating over this for the past several months! But I’ve held off in hopes that it shows up at Christmas! I would be one happy girl to get this under the tree :~)

  383. I would love the Miter saw. We originally had one but our shed was robbed and they took all our tools (lawn mower, blower, weed eater, miter saw, and all the hand tools) It’s the item we plan on getting if we get enough back on tax returns.

  384. Favorite tool/most needed tool is a compound miter saw! We always have to borrow our neighbor’s!

  385. I’m new to the DIY game, and have been loving your website for inspiration and direction. I would LOVE a Dremel tool. In addition to being super handy for DIY projects, I could use it to cut off the yucky bits of my puppy’s Nylabones : )

  386. I want that Dremel muti max REALLY BAD! That would make my Christmas very Merry. :-)

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

  387. I dream of pneumatic…any pneumatic tool, really, but alas, I have neither the funds nor the space for such hardcore toolcraft.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  388. I have requested a random orbit sander and a staple gun. A dremel would almost be too much to ask, but here’s hoping!

  389. I’m dreaming of a drill and/or jigsaw for Christmas. I used an nail gun for the first time this weekend…wow was it fun! I could use the Dremel on some existing projects I have right now. :)

  390. My husband is just starting to get into wood working, and if I were to get something, I think it would be a circular saw for him, because it means great beautiful things of wood for me!! I love his new hobby…

  391. As of now, my sander is my favorite tool…but if I won a Dremel, I’m sure it would quickly become my favorite

  392. I would love a Dremel! I just “stole” the tools from my mom’s house. I got 3 different type of sanders, a router, tape measure, and circular saw. I still have my eyes on her Dewalt driver. The tools were actually my dad’s and my mom will never use them like I will so I gifted them to myself for Christmas, lol. She actually bought a miter saw for her bathroom redo which I claimed as well =) Within the past year, I have most of those tools but I want more.

  393. LOVE the dremel… could do so much crafty stuff with that with all the scarp wood we have. Just got a new duplex and can’t wait to start home projects!!! Have a wonderful Christmas… your blog gets my wheels turning for new Christmas decorations!!

  394. I am a DIY newbie so I only own the basics on your list. The Dremel tool would be an awesome addition!

  395. GREAT giveaway….thanks! And thanks for all of the inspiration you give me with your blog/ideas!!
I really needs most all of these tools eventually….but the one I’d be most excited to get would be the nail gun!!!
    Happy Holidays!

  396. I think I’d love a compound miter saw so that my husband can put up crown molding in our house! :) But I would also love a Dremel since it can do so many things.

  397. I would love a pneumatic staple gun to finish some upholstery projects. A Dremel would come in handy with so many of my DIYs.

  398. Just getting started with this DIY stuff, so I have asked for a staple gun for Christmas. But, you know, this would be better!! :)

  399. Ooh, I’ve been wanting a Dremel Multi-Max, so I realllllly hope I’m lucky! I’ve been using my hot glue gun lately, but I really want a brad nailer as well. Also looking to buy my husband (so he can make me furniture) the Kreg jig system.

  400. Okay – almost all the tools on your list are on mine. I already have some of them, but high on the list is the circular saw, dremel tools and some of teh hand saws

  401. The two tools I keep eyeballing at the hardware store and talking about to my husband about are a dremel and a nail gun. I love, want, and NEED both!

  402. definitely a power sander… I have a few projects that I would love to have that for. I would take a Dremel though as well… ahh..tools.

  403. I would love a Dremel tool! This would make some of my home improvement project SO much easier!

  404. YES! These tools absolutely make me drool! I have been on quite the DIY kick and that Dremel Multi tool is a dream! It is on my wish list AS WE SPEAK! Me and my fellow DIYers are planning on getting one of these after the holidays are over (we all kinda overspent on our Christmas angels…eeek!).

  405. I love all the tools shown, my 2 favorites being the cordless drill and the dremel. However I do lots of small crafts and the dremel would help tremendously. I love, love, love your projects!

  406. Yes, that is everything I want on my list. It has to be pink probably so everyone in my house will leave my stuff alone and not use my tools! Routers are the best.

  407. OMG! I am seriously salivating over here. I don’t even own a rotary tool and I drool over all the deals at Canadian Tire! I would love a dremel, but I will confess my #1 priority right now is a Compound Sliding Mitre Saw… I have big big plans for woodworking this year, including a play stove, fridge and sink for my little girl ;)

    Good Luck everyone!

  408. The Dremel Multimax is totally on both my list and my boyfriends list. Two birds, one stone!

  409. I would love to open a jigsaw, dremel, or a new sander to replaced the one that just died!
    Merry Christmas

  410. I would love a Dremel! But NEED another hot glue gun since mine kicked the bucket this past summer and I have using a mini glue gun…ugh!

  411. I would love, love a miter saw after doing trim without the assistance of power tools. But I also would love a Dremel. Ours burnt out. Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway.

  412. I really want a miter saw… there are tons of projects on my list waiting for the right tools.

  413. My favorite is a Nobex Champion miter box. Much less scary than the power versions, and incredibly accurate — even for those tiny little moldings.

  414. Recently my favorite tool is a brad nailer because it has enabled us to go chair rail and crown moulding crazy lately! We’re putting it everywhere!

  415. My favorite tool right now is my staple gun. I recently finished a fabric-covered headboard, and I’m eager to tackle some pleated window valances next. If I could just find the perfect fabric – I’ve been looking for MONTHS!

  416. my fingers are crossed that santa will bring us an electric sander or dremel!! after just recently moving we’ve found SO many projects to fix up ourselves…oh how i love electric tools! :)

  417. My favorite tool, now and forever, is a good old cordless drill. You can do so much with it!

  418. My favorite tool is DEFINITELY a dremel. I’ve never had my own, but I would LOVE to get one!

  419. There are so many items on this list that I need or want, and some that I have are on their last legs – staple gun and cheapo drill are pretty much done. Would love to win the dremel.

  420. I’ve been wishing for a sander lately. Something to help me out with some furniture refinishing.

  421. I love all my tools. I don’t have a Dremel though and winning one would be awesome!

  422. On my wishlist is a jigsaw. In fact, any saw at all, as we have none, which really puts a damper on all my DIY plans. Thankfully, my dad is still willing to loan some tools in a pinch, but I’m 30 now, and I don’t think I’ll feel truly grown up until I’ve got a workshop of my very own :)

  423. I have a few of those tools as I build my toolchest. Fed would love to add the multimax tool and a cordless drill

  424. I am just beginning my DIY love story and need all of those tools, but the cordless drill is at the top of my list.

  425. When I first met my husband the only tools I had were a butter knife and a rock, yep a special rock in my desk drawer for pounding nails. Things have changed a lot, Mr B is a toolhound so has most of what I need to do a job right. My Favorite most used tool, lately, is a glue gun, but last summer it was a pressure washer and professional paint sprayer(both borrowed from great friends).

I’m tempted to forget fixing dinner and run out and get one of those spray can adaptor! The Dremel tool would be super!!! Thanks for the chance to win :-)

  426. My favorite tool is a crowbar definitely. So good at ripping stuff apart, yet delicate enough to extract the most fragile nail.

I’ve used mine so much that most of the yellow paint on it is rubbed off now.

  427. My favorite tool is the jigsaw…. can’t exactly say I’m a master at using it, but I love it!
And I have been eyeing the Dremel MultiMax for awhile now!

  428. OMG – the The Dremel MultiMax Oscillating Tool! I’ve been watching the info-mercial wanting to cut out the hollow tiles (which I installed – hey 4 or 5 in the whole house isn’t bad!).

  429. The dremel multi tool is exactly what i need to finish up the rest of my projects.

  430. My wishlist for christmas this year includes a socket wrench set. I’ve never played around with a Dremel but I hear wonderful things. I’d love to try it out!!

  431. Fabulous! I hope you keep this updated, it’s wonderful and thank you for your sharing of knowledge for the rookies out here!

  432. Ashamed to admit, I do not yet have a glue gun … am interested in buying one, but I have a question for you all – corded v. cordless, what is the verdict?!

  433. Just had a birthday & recieving a new Dewalt Compound Miter Sliding Saw, from Boyfriend! My two favorite tools are: my radial arm saw (still runnning well for 29 years) & Bosh 18Volt Portable Drill! #1 on my wish list is: Dremel MultiMax List (for Christmas?). I am remodeling my own home now & next spring to start on a friends country home! So any help from useful power equipment I will take!
Wonderful web site you have. I will definitely use your wainscoting ideas! Thank you so much for sharing your ideas & projects & information!

  434. Loved your list. Great reference material for when I want a new toy. Thanks for posting.

  435. An amazing list,,,you are a treasure trove of ideas and how to make those ideas come to life! Thank you :0)

  436. Good to see a thorough list of the essentials! My favorite go-to tool is the cordless reciprocating saw.
Some call it a Sawzall. These are extremely versatile & available in many brands. Have countless uses for wood, metal and plastics and proper blades of all lengths. Mostly used for demolition in remodeling, but I’ve found many other uses like harvesting a Christmas tree, trimming branches in the yard/garden, cutting off old or broken anything ie metal/plastic pipes, stud walls, nails or bolts between boards, etc A real time and trouble saver for demolition before remodeling. Also fun and easy to use.
