You’re Fabulous, March Edition

By Kate Riley April 2, 2010

Greetings friends, it’s time for another end of the month roundup featuring some of your amazing projects !

Chantal from Haas Home sent me this clever idea – she created her own zebra print rug!  Chantal spray painted the edges black, then hand painted with acrylic black and white paint the unique zebra stripe pattern herself.  How cool is this ?

After my patina dresser post, Judy M. of Decatur, Georgia sent me her version of a patina cabinet she painted years ago.  I absolutely love this color and the marble top !

Lori H. liked my little decorative paperweight apple, so she made her own with craft paint.  Doesn’t everything look great in this color ?  :-)

Shannon in Austin, Texas is on a mission to rid the world of honey oak furniture one piece at a time.  Her weapon of choice ?   Kilz primer then two coats of ‘Snowy Alpine’ by Behr.

Kimberly was inspired by my home office and gave her own office/guest room a new look with a DIY fabric covered headboard, a revamped chair, a new sparkly chandy, and some window treatments too !  I really like these window panels . . . a lot !  Kim has excellent taste.  :-)

Jamara R. sent me her pictures of her freshly painted striped green room.  So gorgeous !

Here’s Jamara’s description of how she achieved this look:

“I knew I wanted green and stripes, so I picked the darker green & had a second gallon mixed 60% lighter than the first.  We measured and marked 12 inches at the top, middle & bottom of the walls. Then we took a laser level at our lowest mark, lined it up with the top mark and with the help of a yard stick made a line floor to ceiling. Next came a lot of taping, I taped for my light green stripes, did two coats of paint and removed the tape while the paint was still wet. I waited about 36 hours before I taped for my dark lines because I did not want to risk messing up my light color.

I could see where the tape line was from the first time so I lined it up and taped for the dark green. Before painting the darker color I did a quick coat of the light color on the tape line. The reason was just in case any paint seeped under the tape onto my lighter color I wanted it to be the same color. After that dried I started my darker green stripes, a couple coats later I pulled the tape and voila I had 12 inch green stripes all around! My lines were crisp and straight because of the quick coat over the tape.  We LOVE our office and get so many compliments on the stripes!”

Now I need to find out what brand and color paint this is because I’m loving it !

Todd Fratzel of Home Construction & Improvement, with the help of his wife, created this sweet nursery for their baby girl.  Notice the two tone chair rail and fresh mint color.   Such a pretty space for a special baby girl !

Sarah M. of Five Camels was inspired by my simple sew bench slipcover so she sent me her version.  So lovely, and I must say, such perfection in pleats !

And that, my friends, is the roundup of all lovely things for the month of March.

And speaking of pretty things, my spring table is all set for Easter Sunday Brunch – those pictures coming later today . . . Hope you’re having a great Friday friends !

  1. Wow, some wonderful projects! Thanks for including my little apple. The color of mine is actually much closer to yours but my flash washed it out. I can’t wait to pair it up with a couple of the blue-green Mason jars this summer!

  2. All these ideas really make me wish I owned instead of rented! =( I can’t do any painting of the walls but I suppose I could revamp some furniture…

  3. I love Kimberly’s drapery panels in her office. Any idea what fabric she used or where she bought them? I’m in the market for some great drapes! THANKS!

  4. Lovely setups. I love the carpet-would match my newest pair of stiletto’s:) Happy Weekend!

  5. Wonderful projects! Love that zebra rug. It looks real. Have a wonderful Easter. Love & blessings from NC!

  6. I have honey oak furniture in my bedroom from my teen years. Too scared to refinish it though.

    That zebra rug is impressive.

  7. Hey Kate,
I guess I didn’t mention the color of paint, did I? I actually went to Lowe’s and picked the color I like (a more expensive brand) then went to Wal-Mart and had the color matched. So the darker green is ColorSpace in Bay Green, the lighter color doesn’t have a name, it’s just 60% lighter than Bay Green. =o)
