Weekend Reading 1.14.24

By Kate Riley January 14, 2024

Hello friends, it’s been raining a lot here in Northern California but I’m really enjoying moments by the fireplace in the newly refreshed study. I’m working on a painting project this week and also creating new art prints for my online shop for spring. The creativity is flowing!

I’m planning a road trip to Santa Barbara to visit our daughter for her birthday weekend. I featured the Spanish tile of that town ten years ago so I’m hoping to get a few updated pictures on this next trip. I’m also planning the itinerary for a girls trip to Switzerland in late April so if you have any favorites from that country, please share! I haven’t seen Switzerland since I was in my twenties and it was a brief stay, so it will be nice to return to that oh-so-scenic land in late spring.

Favorite links from the week:

The preserved oak millwork and neutral textiles in this cozy midwest Tudor.

A moody Minnesota craftsman that also kept its dark stained millwork.

This London home has the most beautiful pantry.

This elegant Napa Valley home.

Moving trends: where Americans are migrating.

Loving this printed textiles collaboration.

Alternative uses for cardboard drink holders.

I always broil but here are five different ways to cook salmon.

Lovely writing: I’d like to introduce you to beautiful things.

  1. Enjoy your trip to SB! I’m a native of Santa Barbara — grew up on Sycamore Canyon Rd. My parents are both gone, but my 4 brothers still live in Santa Barbara. I visit as often as I can. Go Gauchos (UCSB)!
