Simple Holiday DIY: Picture Frame Boughs

By Kate Riley November 21, 2023

Thanksgiving week greetings! We’re baking pies and brining the bird and in between we’re decking the halls. We still don’t have our tree but I’ve been adding touches of faux greenery here and there.

These picture frame boughs are an easy way to add bits of evergreen to your walls with pretty little bows and they make wall galleries or individually framed prints more festive.

The supplies are simple, you need evergreen branches (pine, fir, etc) or faux garland like I the realistic inexpensive one I used; wired ribbon, scissors, floral wire, and small clear adhesive wall hooks.

To make them clip two 12” stems or pieces of garland with the needles facing out, then wire the two pieces together with floral wire. Tie a big bow with festive 3” wired ribbon to the center.

Follow the instructions for the clear adhesive hooks to attach them to the wall directly above the center of the picture frame. Secure the bough to the hook with the floral wire used to wrap the two evergreen pieces together.

Display these around your home where you want a little extra touch of the holiday season.

Image these on the photo frames going up your staircase or on a curated wall gallery. So easy!

  1. Wow! I have an oil painting of that very painting of the Church. Do you know more about your print? Great idea with the garland, I have some old that I’m going to follow your lead. Thanks

    • It’s a vintage print Cathy, available in my print shop! It’s by Hoover & Sons from NY Public Library, public domain art.
