Weekend Reading 2.5.23

By Kate Riley February 5, 2023

Yesterday I purged my clothes closet and removed over half of its contents. It was a project I’d been putting off for about two years. I got rid of everything that was worn, dated, didn’t fit, or didn’t “spark joy” as the standard we’ve come to understand when deciding whether to let go or keep possessions. Stepping back after a full day of elimination felt amazing. I have no intention of filling the empty space left behind, I’ll just enjoy it for awhile.

Today I spent a few hours in clay class and it always makes me happy being in the studio as I learn this new craft. It’s a soothing feeling listening to the soft whir of the wheel spinning as I learn how to turn lumps of clay into lovely vessels. I’m in a place now where I can center and open and pull with greater confidence. I’m still very much the amateur, but loving the process.
