Weekend Reading 6.12.22

By Kate Riley June 12, 2022

We had a fantastic graduation day yesterday filled with ceremonies and celebratory parties with all the parents saying the same thing, “It feels like yesterday when they were in kindergarten.” There’s a saying I love that accurately describes parenting. “The days are long but the years are short.”

I remember so many long days between when my kids were babies and now one is a high school graduate. There were a million responsibilities that filled those days and now it’s bittersweet to see them complete their schooling, knowing my daughter and all her friends are off on different journeys in the fall. I’m very excited for her future, but also feeling the imminent changes that will happen from her absence when she goes to university across the country.

I leave for Florida on Tuesday with several renovation projects waiting for me when I arrive. I’m excited to explore the area as well, there are so many cool places to visit along the Gulf Coast. New adventures are on the horizon!

  1. Hi Kate,

    Congratulations! New chapters.

Would love to hear more behind the scenes about how you found reliable contractors, and the process while renovating and planning your move across country.

    • Hi Mary! I’ve had great success using Angi’s to find 5 star contractors, I’ve found a great plumber, electrician, and tile installer! We’re not making the official formal jump quite yet, but getting the house ready is our priority this summer.

  2. Congratulations to your daughter. And to you. College is when our children think we are stupid and they know everything. 🤣😂 so there’s that! But it’s also when they discover how extremely fortunate they are to have the parents they have and been brought up the way they have. Of course they don’t tell you that so I’m just letting you know. 🙂 our kids both have said this but not until they were much older.
