Weekend Reading 4.18.21

By Kate Riley April 18, 2021

Thanks so much for all the love on my client’s kitchen remodel feature this week, your comments on the blog and Instagram were so kind! I’m in historic Virginia City, Nevada this weekend with a big group of friends celebrating a birthday. This is such a fun place to hang out, it’s a little town straight out of the old west with wood platform walkways, saloons, and hotels, it feels like a movie set. :)

I’m curious if you are making plans to travel this summer? I have two road trips planned here in the western US but that’s it. I don’t think I’m going to fly international until fall at the earliest, we will see how things go.

Favorite links from the week:

Stained millwork and a stunning stone backsplash are some of the details in this kitchen.

Layers of texture and a beautiful kitchen backsplash on display in this beach house.

This home has lovely grounds and a gorgeous outdoor entertaining spot.

I love resin projects and these colorful dominos are so fun.

Camping hacks for your adventures in the great outdoors.

Why doing nothing can make you more productive.

And why teens need outdoor adventures.

  1. My husband’s and my 40 year anniversary is in September. We had planned to take a Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona to Venice with stops in Italy, Greece and Croatia. From what I am reading, it doesn’t look like we are going to be able to go, and I am so disappointed. Thankfully we hadn’t booked it yet.
I would love to go anywhere in Europe, but it looks like it may be next year before it is possible. I am missing traveling so much – I’m sure you are too! I enjoy your travel photos from Restless Art on IG. Mind travel is better than nothing!

    • Thanks for the compliment on the RA prints! I’m really hoping Europe is open in fall, I would love to travel to Spain, it’s been two years since I took an international trip. I miss traveling to other countries so much! Fingers crossed we can return later this year. :)

  2. I work a bit for a friend who has a boutique travel business. She only had 2 international trips planned for this year. Her trip to France in September has been canceled and our trip to Italy in October is not looking good right now. She cannot wait till the last minute to call these trips so I will know soon if it is not happening. Our anniversary trip to Bermuda in July has been canceled as well.
We did go to the Bahamas in March and that was great. They are completely open for business, with guidelines.

    • the good news is we’re getting closer to international travel even if it means next year. I have friends who’ve traveled to Mexico, Belize, and other countries in the Caribbean recently so those options are available.
