Versatile Daybeds in Every Style

By Kate Riley May 14, 2019

I’m making use of my old home office as a study/guestroom and I’m adding a daybed under the window. In these circumstances I prefer daybeds that look less like beds and more like structured sofas, ones that can be layered with a few pillows during the day but made up as a bed whenever necessary.

There are so many options and so many styles to choose from! I’m looking for something simple like this first one with very clean lines but I thought why not share all the ones I found with you! These daybeds are so versatile, they can transition a home office into a guest room or cozy up a living room or sunroom by playing the role of sofa by day and sleeping solution by night.

linen tufted

parisian style toulouse

briar velvet (multiple colors)

mid century mercury row (three colors)

loft customizable (many fabric options)

her majesty with trundle

avalon woven daybed

navy tufted

boho natural (also in black frame)

linen & oak

gray mid century

corner upholstered with nailhead trim

lubi sleeper (three colors)

Sadly several don’t come with a matching cover for the twin mattress (and I think they should be included!). For those daybeds that don’t provide a twin mattress cover, you can always have one made with complementary fabric.

Have you made use of a daybed in your home? In what space?

  1. I’m an empty nester with two extra bedrooms. I’m converting one to an office/ study/ guest room. I’ve been searching desperately for a daybed. When your post popped up I couldn’t make it here fast enough. Thanks so much for the great suggestions. I think I may have found the one. Linen and oak is great and so is Toulouse.

  2. My son’s old room is now a plant-filled guest and workout room, thanks to a trundle day bed. I only have a mattress (& sheets, etc) on the top, and plan to use an air mattress on the trundle, if I ever need to house 2 guests in the same room. It’s navy and looks like a sofa with high sides and no back. It looks so good in this freshly painted pale pink room!

  3. I chose the boho bed you show in natural. I was not happy with the lack of matching covers as well and found the wood and rattan of the boho daybed a perfect solution. I love that it is so lightweight. I hope to get a quilted fitted cover since the openness of the rattan shows the bedding tucked all around.
I was able to order a 9” mattress of my choice & quality. If I were to order the mattress again, I would choose a shorter mattress since the back rest is hidden by the mattress- only 7” shows. My daybed against the wall is support enough for pillows when needed. It is rarely used as a sofa and used often for sleeping. I think I will get a twin air mattress for a trundle like Jennifer did. The center support on this daybed does not allow a rolling trundle under the bed.

    • Good point on what kind of mattress works best. I wish more companies actually offered the mattress cover, they look more tailored with them.

  4. I’ve never had a daybed but I do have a sofa that opens up to a queen size bed. I keep all the linens in a coffee table chest in front of it. It takes no more room than a daybed but can sleep a single or a couple. It was my way of supplying guest space when I was younger. Now of course I have 3 full guest rooms but I still have my bed sofa in case of a huge influx.

  5. I guess I am the odd one out here because I loathe daybeds. I guess I don’t understand them or their purpose. To me, they are the most uncomfortable sitting places around. And even worse as beds. I put them in the “useless” category along with armoires, pillow overabundance, recliners and reclining furniture, and overstuffed sofas & chairs. *shrug* Count me out of it, I guess.

  6. Thanks for the roundup. I have struggled to find one that suits my purpose of needing an extra sleeping space in our master bedroom when my husband isn’t feeling well. But I don’t want to be in another room either!
