Lake House Style

By Kate Riley August 14, 2017

If you’ve followed my Instagram stories, you know I was up in Lake Tahoe for a few days, it was the perfect end to summer. I was with a group of girlfriends hiking trails and hanging out on the water, and it was bliss.

I’ve been thinking about investing in a little cabin up there for a while, after my most recent trip I have my heart set on it. After I sell the Las Vegas property I’ll be browsing MLS for the perfect little place near the lake to fix up next year. On to new adventures!

I could never afford house on the water but a little cabin down a bike path will do just fine. I couldn’t help but seek out some inspiration and I came across some beautiful homes showcasing the variety in lake house style.

My favorite elements are the copious amounts of wood and stone to pull the outdoors in. I also like seeing the white shiplap walls mixed with wood tones for depth and contrast. Don’t forget a touch of lake themed decor like vintage oars and glass fishing floats! Click on links below the images for full house tours.

I hope you enjoyed these past few months of summer, I certainly made a lot of great memories! I’m not quite ready to jump into fall, the weather is just too warm. We will be starting the harvest season soon here in Wine Country so I plan to be out and about in a few regions capturing it on camera in September and October.

My next project here at home is a powder room makeover. This week I’m installing wallpaper above and shiplap below and also a new brass faucet. I’ll have that refreshed space to share next week.

  1. I can’t wait to watch this project progress! I have been wanting a Tahoe cabin forever. Maybe in like a million years haha! Good luck!

  2. Love these ideas! My mother in law hung winter items like vintage skis and sleds in their Tahoe home and those look beautiful on the walls too!

    • great idea! Tahoe is wonderful because it has a mountain ski season and a summer lake season. With a little bit of storage, how nice it will be to swap out cozy flannels and tartans in winter with textural summer décor! I’m excited to start my search for the perfect little place.

  3. ouch, don’t tell me you too have gone the way of ship lap??!!
anyway, that Style at Home photo is beautiful, I decided on the spot my new house is having a living room exactly like that. Perhaps not the rafters, but everything else.

    • ha ha not too much just a touch, I’m not a fan of entire houses covered in it. :)

  4. I’m glad to hear you will be out and about in wine country soon. I so enjoy your travel posts. I will be in Healdsburg/Dry Creek Valley next spring. If you are taking requests, I would love to see some wineries, shops and restaurants in that area!
A cabin at Lake Tahoe is very exciting!

  5. Really liked the windows in the picture titled “at home in arkansas.” The must be really cool on a night with lots of stars and a bright moon. Loved it!
