HomeGoods Contest: Mark Your Calendar

By Kate Riley October 6, 2010

Hi all – I have some exciting news to share!  The kind folks over at HomeGoods are sponsoring a fantastic contest with me, and five of you will be the winners!  We all know HomeGoods as the one stop shopping place for frugal yet fabulous home decor.

Recently, HomeGoods has partnered with Elaine Griffin, designer extraordinaire, (whose book I reviewed last year) to create the concept of a ‘Mom Cave’.   A what?   Yes, I said a ‘Mom Cave’.

Of course, we’ve all heard of the Man Cave, but this is a new twist on the idea with the busy Mom in mind!  How gorgeous is this ‘Mom Cave’ space designed by Elaine Griffin?

Well I have some very exciting news !   I’m hosting a ‘Mom Cave’ link party for all of you, and the prizes will be BIG!

The top prize is a $250 gift card to HomeGoods.

Four runners up will receive a $50 gift card to HomeGoods.

Five winners will be selected by a panel of three judges (mystery awesome blogger judge panel announced at the Link Party).

Criteria for entry:

Write up a post* in one of the two categories below in 100 words or less with images of your space and then link up to the party on October 25th.

A) Describe your ‘Mom Cave’ and get creative!  It can be your home office, your craft corner or closet, your reading nook, your vanity, or your favorite getaway spot.  Wherever it is that YOU take time to recharge, create, get organized, or just relax.  Why is it special to you?   How does your existing ‘Mom Cave’ help you stay organized, unwind, or simply be a better Mom?

B) OR, answer this question in your post:  How would a $250 gift card help you create your own ‘Mom Cave’?  Don’t forget a picture!

*If you do not have a blog, please submit your written entry (with at least 1 picture) to [email protected] on or before October 25th.

So . . .

Please mark your calendar for Monday October 25th!

I’ll be making some organizational upgrades to my own home office space, and I plan on showing those on the 25th too.

Can’t wait, this will be FUN !

  1. What great prizes! I don’t really have a mom cave, although I’m gradually taking over my daughter’s bedroom. It will be fun (and probably depressing) to see the wonderful spaces that are linked for the party!

  2. Hi Pamela, I’m sad that this contest excludes so many, like dads and ladies without kids. This is a contest that celebrates Moms as agreed with the sponsor.

  3. I can’t wait! I hope I can pull it together by then. This is the perfect deadline to get the “office area” of my bedroom done. How nice it would be to have an actual room! We mom’s always talk about the man cave, and as a decorator, I hear it a lot from couples I work with. Bravo for this idea! Mom’s need their own space, too. Looking forward to it, and thanks!

  4. I am a Mother of 5 wonderful children.. a Momma cave sounds devine… i have just the room too- recently in the process of making a small den into a Retro room.. so this is perfect for a Mom cave- far enough away from it all to collect my thoughts, read a book, take a cat nap or just sit in there and chat with friends.. i am learning yoga as well, my mom cave needs to be very tranquil…

  5. What a great idea. I have a loft just waiting to become a mom cave but I don’t know if I can get it done by the 25th. But I’ll love to see everyone’s rooms for inspiration.

  6. Ooo, great motivation to work on “my studio” (which is often strewn with toys and which my husband just made himself a reading nook in). I at least hope to have my most awesome chair find done by then. We’ll see!

  7. Wish this were a contest fir rooms that need a makeover!! My mom cave would definitely benefit from an extra $250!! But good luck to everyone.

  8. love the bright pink. My “Mom Cave” is a bright watermelon color but those pink images have me thinking a change might be in my future. :)

  9. HomeGoods is advertised on our television, but we do not have one in Pittsburgh. Please come to the ‘Burgh. They look like they have awesome goods.

  10. I’m just in AWE and in LOVE with that MOM CAVE! Such a cool concept and totally necessary! Mom’s need a MOM CAVE way more than DADS! oooops did I type that outloud? …don’t tell my hubby! It is a fascinating concept and I LOVE the idea plus I think I actually HAVE a little Mom Cave to enter! COOL! THANK YOU! ;-) YOU, my dear have great give aways…HOME GOODS, YAY Oh, if you haven’t already stopped by, I’m having a SCENTSY give away and I’d love you to enter!!

  11. A Mom Cave!?!? Awesome! Is it bad that I really would just want a CAVE… it’d be quiet, dark… perfect for sleeping! Ha! Sorry, mom of toddler boys just daydreaming here!

  12. I can not wait to see the photos for this contest. My bathroom is my mom cave but it’s a bit too personal for me to share.

Those pink walls are making me think I want to add some of that color around the house come next spring I don’t think I could take a whole room of it.

  13. I love HomeGoods! We stop by the store when we visit my parents in PA. There’s finally one in my area, and I would be thrilled to shop there. My newly created studio (this past summer) would welcome some things from HomeGoods!

  14. Woo hoo! I hope my craftroom is done by then so I can link it up as I hope that will be my mom cave. There isn’t a spot in this house that I can relax and recharge in right now. It seems there is remodeling or Halloween decorating going on in every single living loving tiny speck of space in this house.

  15. Wow. Now those ARE some great prizes! I’ve been meaning to make some organizational upgrades to my space; now I have real motivation to get ‘er done!

There’s a HomeGoods store less than 10 minutes from my house. Next door to a Michael’s. Across the parking lot from a Target SuperStore. Next to a large regional mall. Durham doesn’t have everything, but it does have Duke, great restaurants, millions of trees, and some really good shopping. My kind of town. :)

  16. We just moved to the Seattle area from Denver and can you believe there is NO HomeGoods store here? Gasp! No Hobby Lobby either – but that’s another post. Since you are in the “inside” with HG – tell them to please, please, please open up a HomeGoods Store here! :)

  17. I heart HomeGoods. I’d love love love to have my closet made into an glamorous, feminine space, where I’m inspired to get dressed and start off each day feeling and looking fabulous!

  18. Oh dear.. i’d be so embarrassed to show my messy room. I baby sit 2 grand babies…and actually have one here full time. And as much fun as it is … time does slip away. I think that for now my bedroom is my mom space. I love it. Now that the weather is getting cooler my cats love to snuggle with me… and my bed is loaded with pillows, and just have small lights around. It’s certainly my “me” space.
Do feel it’s nice you guys are highlighting the mom .. i think we do seem to put ourselves in the back…and put all other things, people , jobs etc before ourselves.

  19. This would be so great to have a MOM Unwind Space OMG!! my office/excercise room a place to properly destress OMMMMM so nice.

  20. I am so excited abot this contest!!! I’ve already started planning my Mom Cave for my post. I can’t wait to see everyone’s ideas.

  21. I love it! I was wondering if there was a way to find out where the rose prints on the light blue background came from? Thanks so much!

  22. I’m trying to develop a mom cave in our spare bedroom. A place to sew and create.

  23. Umm… I’m not a mom, but I would love a beautiful peaceful office space. Somewhere I can take all my food blog photos, edit them, or even just relax and read. :D I need great smelling candles, and pretty art on the walls.

  24. I would definitely fall into the category for those needing help!
(and despite my online name, I do have a human child, and the scars and gray hair to prove it!)
