Fan-tastic Fixture

By Kate Riley September 15, 2010

Hi all, how’s your week?  For me, it’s been interesting running up and down plywood steps on our staircase for the past few days.  We will slowly be installing new white risers and wood treads over the course of the next week.  It’s certainly a lot of precision cutting, and there’s plenty of sawdust in our house ~ more details coming soon.

Meanwhile, I’d love to show off this fantastic light fixture revamp by Kristen at The Painted Hive.  Kristen shows some real ingenuity and a can-do attitude with her makeover.  She takes this unbelievably dated fixture (the same one I’ve spied at garage sales and in the brass bin at my local Restore)  . . .

Before:

and turns it into this unbelievably glamorous focal point.

Stunning!

Can you believe it ?  What a clever and beautiful makeover, I am in awe !

Hop on over to visit Kristen and read all about how she did it.   No doubt you’ll be inspired to update one of your brassy fixtures too.

Have you got a fabulous makeover you’d love to see featured?  Drop me a line at [email protected] and I’m happy to consider it for the weekly lineup!

  1. Can’t wait to see the results after the sawdust settles…and that gruesome light has been totally revived into a fabulous piece–I know just where I’m taking that little tutorial!!

  2. Just beautiful! I love how dramatic the big black shade looks. Very similar to a light shade I purchased recently for my entry way. I’m always a sucker for classic black!

  3. Wow!!!! What a transformation!!! Thanks for the idea! I love that you can make something so beautiful for not much $$.

  4. When I saw the tease photo of the original fixture on your Facebook, I thought “No way is anyone going to make THAT into something cool…” I stand corrected. And extremely impressed! Love it.

    Thanks for the awesome share!!

  5. Wow! That’s amazing!! What a clever girl! I can think of several places in my home where I’d love to hang that fixture. Speaking of makeovers, I just finished working on my dining room. The final touches are shown in my last post, but to see all the projects (I sewed slipcovers and drapes, painted and added molding squares) you’ll have to click through my last few posts.

  6. This is perfect! So clever and unique, I love this kind of stuff it makes me warm and cozy inside!
