Parisian Powder Room

By Kate Riley April 23, 2009

I love all things Paris. Not Hilton. The City.

My downstairs half bath, or powder room, is only 7 feet long by 3 feet wide.  Needless to say, it is a very small space.  When I redid la toilette, I wanted to give it a light, airy feeling, and also a little French flair.

On the wall color choice, I took the easy road, and I painted it about six months ago ‘Silver Sage’ by Restoration Hardware.  I also added a curtain I found on clearance for $49 while picking out the paint.  It is the Etched Filigree drape, done in what Restoration Hardware calls “the French devoré manner—a process that burns out fabric, leaving a lacy design”.  The color of the drape?  You guessed it: Silver Sage.

The filigree drape doesn’t provide much privacy, so we do have a pull down shade any guest can access.  However, there is a very large bouganvilla plant outside that obstructs anyone’s view in, and also provides a garden view from the inside.

This mirror is from (shocker) Lowes.

A friend gave me these monogrammed hand towels, and they add a bit of élégance:

The hourglass is from Anthropologie and the glass and chrome shelf is from Pottery Barn:

These prints are of the Eiffel Tower and the street in Montmartre.  I picked them up in Paris at a street fair ten years ago, and I finally framed them in some inexpensive frames from Michaels.  Those gorgeous white flowers are real, and blooming right now in my rear garden!  How lovely are they?

A tiny space and a tiny budget led to my Parisian Powder Room.  Vous l’aimez?

  1. Im not sure why but I can’t see your photos now but I’m excited to see your Parisian bathroom. I’m thinking of putting up Parisian photos in my bathroom too so you can be my inspriation :)

  2. Ooh la la! I love restoration hardware, we tried to do our townhouse years ago in Silver Sage but (being cheap) didn’t want to buy 10 gallons of paint from there; whatever we used just wasn’t the same! I’ve had it in the back of my mind ever since, saving it for the big kitchen remodel dream, if that ever happens!

  3. YOU are SO DARLING! I love that sweet little oasis d’powder! You’re fabulous!

  4. Tres jolie! Love you petite la toilette! I'm tearing down ugly '80's wallpaper in my small hall bath right now and always appreciate the inspiration and motivation! :>

  5. I’m a self-proclaimed Francophile–LOVE all things French.

Votre toilette est tres chic! (OK, 5 yrs of French class have escaped me so if that was offensive or grammatically absurd, I totally blame my French teacher =]

  6. I have that same Montmarte print from a street vendor in Paris! I’ve always loved it…I think hubby snagged it for his office. Paris holds a special place in our hearts…I think that’s probably true for anyone who’s been! I hope to pass it on to my daughter…her new room has definite Paris infuence (framed vintage Air France posters…eek!!)

    xo, cass
