Destination Design: Napa and Sonoma

By Kate Riley July 19, 2021

I’ve spent a lot of days enjoying my own backyard here in the Northern California Wine Country. It’s always been a top travel destination, sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live here. Continuing the Destination Design series today with a trip to my side of the world: Napa and Sonoma.

There’s definitely a vibe that exists here among the acres of grapevines and the rolling hills that are covered in old oak and sculptural olive trees. How nice to see the interiors of hotels, homes, and vacation rental properties reflect the tones and textures of the landscape. Natural wood finishes and neutral tones are common as is the use of textures such as leather, stone, and stucco. Many properties do a beautiful job of easing the transition from outdoors to indoors. Below find a list of inspirational stays that host guests, or homes that have been featured in publications in the Napa and Sonoma wine country region. 1. Hi Kate
It’s good to see your view! It’s encouraging! From the news it would seem wine country is dried up and leafless. Or burned to the ground. California I love ya and i worry about your fires, droughts, mudslides and earthquakes.
Hope the weather will be favorable.
    Best wishes from Georgia,
    Kerry

    • I was in Napa and Sonoma a couple weeks ago and it is very brown and dry. The only green are the vineyards. That said, I love the area and hope the live in the Sonoma area some day. Always wonderful memories, meals and wine.

      • Our hills are golden in the summer, and perhaps a little drier this year because of the drought. Still a lovely landscape all around!

    • Yes, the drought and wildfires are always on our minds too! Still a lovely place to be. :)

  2. Oh, how I miss living in that area! It’s truly one of the most beautiful spots. I grew up in GA and with my husband being in the military we move around a bit and until we moved to CA I never knew such beautiful weather existed! lol We were there for four years and we both say it’s our most favorite place we’ve lived thus far.
