BHG Faves

By Kate Riley September 17, 2015

Hello! This week is very exciting for me, today I’m in NYC at the Better Homes and Gardens Stylemaker Event, follow along on Instagram with the hashtag #BHGStyle to see what dozens of bloggers and designers are up to today. My sister is flying in tomorrow and we’ll be spending a few days together in Manhattan and Brooklyn, I haven’t seen her since our last trip – we’re going to have a blast!

In honor of today’s events I found some very inspiring galleries over at Better Homes and Gardens, definitely click worthy!

One small request, if any of you have had any extra special places you’ve visited in NYC or Brooklyn in the past year, let me know! We’ve done all the touristy stuff, we’re looking for insider or lesser known gems. Please share! Especially Brooklyn, we’re spending all day Sunday there.

I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon with some favorite weekend links!

  1. I just moved out of Manhattan to the NJ suburbs…just wanted to recommend one thing to see that not many tourtists know about. The Irish Hunger Memorial. It is VERY cool! Looks like they dropped a piece of Ireland in the middle of Manhattan.

  2. Donut Planet. OMG. If you go on Thursday or Sunday they have their Chocolate Chip Cookie donut. I don’t like donuts and I still dream about this place!!

  3. Best person to ask for what to do in Brooklyn would be to look up Brooklyn limestone blog & ask Stephanie.
    Enjoy your vacation!

  4. Have you done the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side? They give intimate tours of the tenements and tell real life stories of the people who live there.

  5. Hi Kate-

Just a heads up that if I click on these links to go to the BHG website, I’m not allowed to view any of the images without signing up for their newsletter, which I do not want to do. I do respect the request to pin from original sources, but BHG makes it really hard to do that (and their website is full of pop-ups, so I avoid going there if I can).

    Have fun in NY!

  6. I was really disappointed to see that I have to sign up to see the information in your links. Boo

    • Oh gosh everyone so sorry ! I didn’t even realize that …how frustrating. I’m an email subscriber so forgot about that :( again my apologies

  7. The greatest breakfast i have ever eaten was in Brooklyn. You MUST MUUUUST eat at Miriam. It is an Israeli restaurant and I still dream about their food. Please please go there!

  8. check out my neice’s link ( tinselandtin) for Brooklyn destinations. She just spent the summer there and has since returned to LA. She’s on instagram and her “tours” can be found on

  9. Hi Kate,
I’m from Brooklyn. Have you gone to the Park Slope area? It is full of amazing historical brownstones, and Prospect Park is a beautiful park. Lots of great eats there too, and Ample Hills Creamery is just the best ice cream ever, not too far from there. Crazy creative and delicious small batch ice cream. It’s also right by the new Barclays Center,

  10. Love NYC. On my list is walk the Brooklyn bridge and view Manhattan from the bridge. Also the public library – pictures of the reading room look incredible. Imagine writing a blog post there or anything! Enjoy. I’m envious.

  11. Griimaldi’s pizza in Brooklyn is the best. Also in Manhattan: City Bakery (the hot chocolate rivals Cafe Flore in Paris) and Eataly:40,000SF of groceries and 7 restaurants.

  12. I love these posts but the BHG links are terrible.. I agree with everything Cindy said. And I subscribe to the magazine via IPad I think it’s one of the best re the extras they provide much like MS Mag was when it first was available. I used to subscribe to their decorating newsletter but they started repeating many of the posts. I’m a fan of the magazine but not of the advertising pop ups etc.
hope you have a great trip to NYC looking forward to hearing what you found fun and interesting.
